Expansion of the league has been a high priority for the last two years. The question is how that occurs. Reported on this thread was in inquiry from VMI and I am aware that RPI has a similiar informal inquiry.
We lost Richmond principally over the football scholarship issue combined with a very aggressive anti-patriot movement by Richmond alums. ( If we could take William and Mary, and Richmond and one other southern school it might be more pallitable)
My point is how do you make us more attractive....football scholarships and scholarships in other sports puts us in the main stream. We have to do that first!!! My comment about Army and Navy football is more of a wish, it makes sense for them and would certainly raise the visability of the PL at the same time, similar to their impact in Men's Lacrosse. My guess is if that were to happen Richmond and William and Mary would follow.
I don't agree that Army and Navy are playing at a high level. My guess is Lafayette, Lehigh and Holy Cross would have a good chance ag Army and could hold their own ag Navy.
Why Army and Navy enjoy gettng beat up every year doesn't make sense to me. But not my call...

I thought the league already allowed scholarships in all sports but football. Am I wrong?

That is correct but in practice the schools don't give it for all sports. Lafayette for example only gives it for M/W Basketball M soccer and Field Hockey. HC only gives it for Basketball.

According to a source on the Any Given Saturday Board. That is comparable to what the PL gives in terms of equivalencies. RPI, of course, does not give FB scholarships. Is this a move with keeping equivalencies in place, where VMI would switch their aid model or RPI would simply adjust how they allocate need-based aid?

I understand the football part, VMI has scholarships but the PL does not allow them. But I don't understand why you say scholarships for other sports if they are already allowed. Are you saying the PL would require them in all sports? I don't think the existing schools would go along with that.

I guess I didn't make myself clear or very accurate. You are correct scholarships are allowed in all sports but football. I suppose the more precise statement would be that the PL should be competitive with the outside world in more sports, that is not posible without scholarship in many sports. However, football as a key sport for most athletic programs and a draw for alums scholarships would be needed to make PL attractive to join. I stand corrected.

OK, I got it. Basically you just want to add football scholarshps. Each school could decide where it wanted to offer scholarships. Each school could decide which sports they wanted to compete regionally or nationally in.

Navy gets beat up every year? Last I checked, the Navy football team has been to four straight bowl games, should have won three in a row (had Boston College beat last year) and has one of the 20-best records in NCAA Division I since the start of 2003...
If that is your definition of getting beat up on, I would gladly take that and run.
