This was probably the best move for Duquesne Football from apurely program point of view. I would have like to see them join the Patriot for football, but they are adding 24 scholarships in the Northeast Conference.

Duquesne held their own against the PL members and I hope they keep scheduling a few OOC games each year, but it will be harder given more league members and the Ivy League games that the Dukes are playing now.

It really looked for a while that a big re-alignment might trickle down to the FCS level, but very few schools are a good fit for the Patriot. There was a lot of discussion as to Marist, but that option seems to have lost some steam. Also, it looks like VMI is going to stay in the Big South.

Seven teams is a pretty compact league. If we are going to stay this way, IMHO, we have to upgrade our OOC scheduing.

College Football is all about rivalries. Even though they are not going to the Patriot, I'd like to see them continue to schedule them OOC. Duquesne never had a ton of people crowding in to see St. Peters and Iona. They actually did better agains fellow A-10 member Fordham. Bucknell and former fellow MAAC member Georgetown. These were turning into good series. LaFayette and Holy Cross stopped scheduling Duquesne after a few losses.

As a duke's fan, I'd rather we have left the MAAC years ago rather than pound St. Peters into realizing that they had to make a committment to play 1-AA. They will be a better football team going on to the NE with the scholarships, but it will not be as fun playing Central Connecticut State and Wagner as it would be to continue playing Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross, La Fayette and Bucknell. With a bigger conference and playing some Ivy League teams now these games will not be comming frequently. Duquesne/Patriot games were always hard fought and usually well played.

Sincerely- Good luck with the league. Seven members is a bit small, particullarly if there are always rumors about Holy Cross and Fordham leaving.

Duquesne is a school with a lot of history and tradition on many levels and I hope Colgate and DU match up down the line.
