Andy - I don't know the exact number, but I would venture your right that the regular student body is higher than 5%. But I also offer that we don't ask the regular student body to commit 20 hours per week to a Division I sport such as football. The fact that football players succeed (by graduating) at such competitive instituions while still be successful at other areas in life is enough for me.

If I get anything on GPAs at Colgate, I'll share.

It's a little old, and a round about way of getting it, but I doubt that it is that far off or much different today:

This is a press release for the crew team, stating that they had an average GPA of 3.31 - the highest of any Colgate athletic team and higher than the school average of 3.06. Using that general area of 'average', it would seem that an average Colgate student, much less football player, wouldn't be eligible for All-Academic PL.

I'm sure we all claim this, but Colgate has notoriously tough grades.

Those numbers I posted do not necessarily mean a lot. What jumped out at me was that Bucknell clearly had the highest number of Honor Roll players and clearly had the toughest season. Overall GPA would mean more, but as 13 said, there are a lot of variables including how tough the school is on grading. I know that the Georgetown kids complain about that a lot and the Ivys have a reputation of inflating grades for image enhancement.

Bottom line is that I would be proud to have a degree from any of the Patriot League schools and I enjoy seeing my son compete with them.

In my case, several years ago I was in the midst of another losing season and feeling frustrated. The outgoing HC asst. coach's statement regarding the successful programs' "reduced standards and increased spending" seemed to be supported by the league budget and honor role figures. Certainly I've not heard of CU football being cited by the league, so if the Council Of Presidents (COPs!?) is happy, I'm happy. I've heard that LU was cited and they have been making a lot of statements re raising their academic standards for their players, to their credit. LC bball apparently was also sub-standard, no doubt in an effort to cope with the unfortunate stance of their former pres. Anyway, how the kids do after arrival is a different issue than admission standards. I guess one could expect a correlation, who knows. LC's numbers are bolstered by academic "Marquis" scholarships--Bono, Maurer, Conte that I know of. But I am proud of how Frank has built the program seemingly without lowering standards, but admittedly with increased alumni involvement--funding. IMO, only thing that is now holding back GU is spending.
