Wow, that is horrendous. I read an article a while back about infections that were spreading through physical contact sports, particularly football. It seemed to mostly be a problem in the Northeast (according to the article). They think it was mostly being spread through open cuts and they thought the bacteria might be on the turf and entering the players that way ... or through skin to skin contact. Not sure if this is related to the viral infection here, but I'm going to try and dig up that article.

God bless that family and community for having to deal with a loss like this.
