Dear Rene,
Concerning the kills of Christiansen there is a lot of discussion. Without any doubt a number of vessels that became 'beute' have been included.
Even about C25 there seems to be discussion on acknowledgement of it as a victory. The airship is without any discussion.
We have had another discussion about it on the Aerodrome website, but without any new elements coming up.
I should have next month some new information on him out of the Kriegstagesbuch of his unit.
It seems 21 should be the official number. 27 is probably the number of all his claims, also the not acknowledged ones.
He was awarded the PlM on the 11th December 1918. The recommendation text reads :
Since 16 september 1917 he is Station Master/director of the Seeflugstation Flandern. Since 12 february 1915 he has flown 440 flights against the enemy, his total flying hours are 1174. He has many air victories to record. He dropped bombs on Dover, Etc. He kept 27 shipwrecked persons, who met with an accident through English monitors, with his squadron at the accident site over water until boats came to save the crew. Seven men still drifting in the water later were fished out by his squadron, and sheltered in the planes. He himself brought three of the men in his plane to Zeebrugge. Furthermore, together with U-boats he brought in five steam ships and one Dutch sailingboat. Through him five damaged aircraft and their crews were saved. In december 1917 he attacked an English airship and destroyed it. Christiansen counts as the best and most succesfull German seaplane pilot.
He was also already awarded the Hohenzollern House Order.
After the war he was squadron commander of the Navy Brigade Löwzenfeld, which played an active role in the attacks against Spartakus. His nickname was Krischan.
Will try to find the info on his other decorations and dates.
Vriendelijke groeten, Johan
