I have published no books, haven't written a thing on the Wars, and am not known by anybody to be a scholar, or anything within shouting distance of being a scholar. But I am absolutely fascinated by WW-I, which I regard to be the most important event in the last 100 years, INCLUDING the Atomic Bomb, and the Imperial German Navy especially. I too have a WW-I Naval ensign on my wall. I am also a rabid wargamer and have been since the 1960s.
I am horrified that kids are graduating from High School now and are lucky to even know that WW-I happened, let alone WHAT happened.
