He seems to have been leading an infanterist group during the first British raid on Zeebrugge Harbour in the night of 22 april 1918. It is possible that he was a crewmember of one of the torpedoboats who were anchored at the Zeebrugge Mole during this attack, in which was tried to block the harbourentrance with blockships.
