In reply to: K Pelle 's message, "Ephesians 5" on 22:55:17 01/19/12 Thu

this struck me initially as pretty weird -- not the handcuffs, particularly, but the "going Biblical" on her. A couple of things... moderate this, though:

• she's in charge on the river,
• we don't know what they've talked about "off book" on the Canyon chats and other times,
• Noah can be taught. It might take a little while, but given Wes's belief in Chekov's Gun, we might find one or the other learning a very interesting lesson by book's end.

Although, apart from the fact that we do see them together after the church-tour, I might not have been surprised to see Noah falling out of a moving car with his teeth and jaw rattling on the pavement nearby.

Oh Wes usually leaves a 'weapon' or two around in plain sight, the fun is often in second guessing which pile of ammunition he plans to have used by which character.
What I'm implying is that the secondary plots are often as interesting as the 'Gun' situation. (The last two chapters have been 'quite' interesting!)

The Crystal of Canyon Fires and after seems to be a completely different, and much less interesting, character than the Crystal of earlier stories. I'll be pleasantly surprised if she doesn't just keep on being Noah's doormat.

Doormat? I somehow doubt that description would ever fit her, but only because of where they live and what they do for a living. Separate them from an outdoor atmosphere and force her into a strictly urban situation and she might become so depressed as to become a doormat, but otherwise? Nope, just can't see it.

Crystal might work very hard to accommodate Preach's beliefs, but I can't see her lasting long in a subservient role in any way. Instead I think the two of them will rub the sharp corners off each other and what will end up isn't what we've seen at last mention.

Yes, the story seems to be that Preach and Crystal are each becoming more like the other. Fortunately, there are other, more interesting story lines going on.
