I was in Okinawa for a conference back in the fall. Quite a different place some 68 years later.

My father-in-law was on one of the small flattops that took the troops home. My father one-upped him. He brought the first wave in as Coxswain of an LCVP off the USS Arriga. Then continued for a while to bring men and supplies in.

There was a typhoon off the coast, so I couldn't go to the beachhead only 11Km away (now a public beach) for a 'now' picture for my dad.

I wonder if they were still racing there when my father-in-law was at the island :)

For the conference social, we were entertained by a troop of Okinawian traditional drummer/dancers. Fantastic!
