A word of advice for the interim Spearfish Lake superintendent:
Down where I live (my county, actually,) we had a long-term super retire. They promoted one of the board-members to interim. After about 3 years of unsuccessful searching, they finally deleted the word "interim" in the title, and after another five or six years, said super tried to retire. Being the polite, thoughtful man he was, he offered to stay on a bit until his replacement was hired.
Something like EIGHT YEARS LATER, he said "enough is enough," and retired. For real, this time.
"Interim" -- some of the best weasel-wording out there...
Granted, he was good for the system, and we were fortunate to have two really good supers in a row. He had a fairly set graduation speech; pretty short, full of useful information, like, "when you get to college, find out where the library is. When your parents come to visit, they're going to ask!" And he always closed with some really useful advice that some of the Spearfish Lake Football Punks probably could have used: "not much good happens after midnight. Go home. Get some sleep."
