Don't forget Alco, Lima, Baldwin, Cook, Hamilton to name a few more! Then there's the railroads that were known for home-building (like the PRR and their Altoona and Juniata Works, which built over 7500 STEAM locomotives (more than most commercial builders managed), and in recent years, building and rebuilding Diesel locomotives throughout it's 150+ year history under PRR, PC, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern!

For anyone who's interested in seeing Shays and Heislers in operation, the Cass Scenic Railroad here in WV has both that operate on 13 mile stretch of old logging railroad daily from March thru October. The long trip ascends from around 2,000 feet above sea level to around 4800 feet above sea level to the second highest point in the state. Great scenery and tremendous views.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV is right next door, and worth a visit as well.

Speaking of Alco, IIRC the name figures in 'Snowplow' and maybe some of the later stories where the RR plays a role.
