Wes is a journalist. All journalists think every reader of every kind knows what -30- means.

From Wikipedia:
–30– has been traditionally used by journalists to indicate the end of a story. There are many theories about how the usage came into being,[1]e.g. from that number's use in the 92 Code of telegraphic shorthand to signify the end of a transmission in the American Civil War era.[2] In another theory, the "-30-" originated when stories were written in longhand; X marked the end of a sentence, XX the end of a paragraph, and XXX meant the end of a story. The Roman numerals XXX translate to 30.

Okay, now we know what it means, but even journalists don't know why it does.

Anyone who has bought a recently edited book will not we have changed the endings to "The End" ... it was thought better to end more traditionally but ... I did like the -30-

In high school journalism class we learned that -30- was a code for a 30-em dash to separate the story from the following one. Of course, that was in olden times (1948) along with steam-powered radio and 8 cents a gallon for gas.

And now hand-cranked radios are back. Especially in Africa!

Along with hand-cranked torches, water pumps, telephone chargers etc :o
