Books in the series don't need to be written in the order that they are eventually placed in the sequence.

I don't think Wes begins a book thinking this will be book 1 of a series etc. Like most authors I think he will start writing when the muse appears then may have to take a break from a story when it 'dries-up' and await the return of inspiration, he may well commence writing something completely different whilst waiting!

He may well have several different tales at various stages of completeness (if that is a real word!). Books will be finished as per his muse rather than sticking to a rigid scheduling.

The simple answer is that I came up with a story that's takes places later than the others. The stories in progress fall in the gap between it and Picking Up the Pieces.
