French uses two different verb cases, the familiar used with family and good friends, and the formal which is used with the rest of the world. Perhaps, but were they married for long, where were they raised, how old are they, etc. Let's just say that I know an older French couple who still talk quite formally whenever they're in company that they don't know well. Also possible "Veux-tu de cafe?"An earlier writer is correct re the more formal "vous" if they are beyond a certain age, translated 70+. Most likely would be "encore de cafe, (possibly with name or cher or cherie per above.) ?" which is the equivalent of "more coffee, dear, hon, jane, john" Hope this is clear.
