Question from a city boy... what's the significance of the yellow tag on the head, and the red or blue tag on the
foot? I notice that every one has a yellow tag, and that most have a blue tag... maybe three have a red tag.

Greetings

I don't know for sure about those tags, but sometimes different colour tags are used to show a location and year.
So the top tag yellow shows one location, different colours in other areas. While second could be 2011 green, 2012 blue, 2013 mauve, etc.
As I say, only guessing.

I haven't hunted deer in a long time. I'm pretty sure the yellow tags are from the hunting licenses. You buy a license, shoot a deer, and you have to put the license from the tag on the deer. This supposedly keeps you from shooting more than you limit.

The red and blue tags must refer to the processing and would have been put on by the butcher.
