Wes,

I recall that Spearfish Lake was supposed to be located "two inches behind your eyes."

Now i read:

"Spearfish Lake is well up in the western part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and it’s pretty lonely and empty there, especially in the winter, so they were glad to be getting back to civilization. "

Is this a new revelation, or have you placed SFL this precisely before?

Best,

Ed G

I think so but can't point to it. Even the description given in Down by the Riverside is pretty vague.

The FAQ (which I haven't looked at in a while and I can see needs updating) says: "If you absolutely have to imagine it on a map, put it around Iron Mountain or Crystal Falls, Michigan, with Green Bay being Camden. Now, Iron Mountain or Crystal Falls are not Spearfish Lake and never have been; it's just that if Spearfish Lake were real it might be located around there somewhere. Or it might not be."

Honestly, I can't come much closer than that. Spearfish Lake has floated around over the years. At one time, in the early stages of writing Snowplow Extra, it was in Maine. I wish I had done a better job of locating it when I dreamed it up but I didn't and now I'm stuck with it. In the beginning it was never supposed to be for more than one book -- Snowplow Extra -- but another book came along and it was convenient to use as background. Over thirty years later I'm stuck with it.

But the truth you stated above it correct: in the real world Spearfish Lake is located right behind my eyeballs.
