I was joking actually. Vivien Leigh was an English actress and not likely suitable material to name a street in the US of A after. Californians are weird sometimes though, I've discovered.

Could have been Janet Leigh perhaps?

Leigh is a very old first name that has roots in English as well as Gaelic, and is suitable for a boy or a girl. It is also listed as a form of Lee, however, I think it's a case of Leigh degenerating into Lee over the centuries. reference source:

Yeah, but if those San Hosers wanted to name the street after that good American, Robert E. Lee, they wouldn't have named it "Leigh" I don't think.

(I had to look up Janet Leigh, had never heard of her.)

true, but I don't think the people in California would be that happy with things named after Confederate generals. Have a look at the streets around the area in the map for Leigh Ave San Jose - there are a lot of avenues with names that can be used as both first names and last names - Ross Ave, Jarvis Ave, Cherry Ave, Hamilton Ave. then when you get into the streets, you get a heck of a lot more first names in the area around Stokes - Norman, Grace, Isabel, Francisco. there's even a whole bunch that don't fit in with either naming schemes. The source in San Jose could have been anything, first name or last name or pulled out of a hat.
