Subject: Loser Cars in SFL Tales

I just read an article about the worst selling cars in U.S. history. The 2005 Pontiac Aztek and the 1960 Ford Edsel were two of five cars mentioned. Susan McMahon's parents pick her up at the airport in her mother's new 2003 yellow Pontiac Aztek and she is embarrassed by its color and style and that it is not a German car. Of course, she changes her tune when she realizes her parent's frugality allowed them to buy a decent used car for her. Mel Austin mentions in Bradford Speedway that several American cars of the 1950s including the Edsel were some of the ugliest ever made. It is interesting to note that 1960 and 2005 were the last years that Ford and GM made their losers. I was born in 1947 so I don't remember the Edsel but I do remember the Aztek and thought it was probably the ugliest car I have ever seen.

Uglier than a VW Beetle or a Citroen? I had a friend who had a Citroen for a while. It was just strange looking in that it wasn't close to the norm for the day.

I'm not a car buff of any sort and really don't give a darn what they look like. Will one get me from point A to point B and back again reliably and relatively inexpensively? And carrying what I need to take along with me? People can call it whatever they want. If it works for me, that's what matters. I'm not out to impress anyone in the Jones family. I'm just more utilitarian, I guess?

I don't know if any of ya'll read a comic strip called "Get Fuzzy" , but one of the charecters is a paranoid cat called Bucky. One of his ememies is a ferret that lives next door. In one strip, Bucky makes a set of anit-ferret armor out of plastic spoons and tupperware. His owner, Rob take one look and says " dude- you do worse things with plastic than Pontiac!"

The Aztec was actually not a bad idea of a car, but Holy Crow, the execution was awful!! One of the ugliest cars ever. It runs close to the AMC Pacer, and/or practically every 1958 model car.
