Not that this could be used by Wes for his character, but we had a couple neighbors down the street (far enough away that they didn't bother us much), a younger couple who'd throw all-night parties once in a while. Loud ones.

The little old lady who lived next door to them once rented a tape deck and big sound system, and recorded a few hours of that night's party through her window, then as soon as the party broke up and the couple went to bed, blared the tape-recorded festivities back at them all day through the loudspeakers just to keep them awake.

Many years ago I was in a rock and roll band and I had some rather heavy duty equipment - about 2 or 3000 watts worth with something like 24 or 30 inch speakers etc. My elderly aunt had rented out her upper duplex - she lived on the main. The people she rented to were a young couple who had a tendency to fight on occasion and it disturbed her. I was away for a few days and she decided to 'borrow' my amplifier and speakers so she could play a tape of the ringing of the bells of a local church if and when she heard them fighting.

She only played the tape once - Then the next day she called the local glazier to replace the glass in her living room window! She said afterward that at the third stroke of the bells, the window exploded outwards. Her cat disappeared that day too and was gone for three weeks.

Had a friend that rented 1/2 of a cabin. He worked shift, but had a neighbor that was not very considerate about the noise, consequently, my friend had trouble sleeping. Finally my friend had had enough. Before going to work a night shift, he put on a recording of authentic Native American music (drums and chants) and set it to run all night with his speakers against the neighbor's wall. My friend had little trouble with the neighbor after that.

I should have guessed loud music would spark some memories and those stories produced a chuckle.

Something I didn't stress wasn't that it was loud so much as weird. We could hear this strange music all around the neighborhood and it would take time for me and my buddies to trace it to the old lady. And that's how I first discovered Pink Floyd's album "Meddle". This isn't the Pink Floyd that gets played on the radio, you know.

We had a great time speculating on how she ended up with a copy of that on tape.

I gave examples of weird, but she tended to prefer the farm stock reports and bluegrass, neither of which would classify her as nutty. Thus she introduced me to both Pink Floyd and also Flatt and Scruggs. And Jacques Brel, as I think about it.

I bet she's to blame for my taking French in High School instead of Spanish. Yes, I'll blame her.
