Can't say as I agree with you. Wes posted Chap 12 here, Gina Marie started a new story about Stephenie Kninsella, and SOL had a few posts that I have in my library. Certainly not a total loss.

Over the weekend SOL had a chapter each of "Lost and Found", "Arlene and Jeff", and "Steve ans Chuck", all of which are in my Library. I guess it depends on your point of view, eh?

Damm, Chapter 13, not 12 for Wes. If I would proof-read my posts I would make such stupid mistakes :=( (Especially twice in a row)

My problem is that the authors I like don't post fast enough for me as I usually want to read at least 3-4 chapters a day and more on weekends. I always look for Wes's updates first as well as Dual Writer's (Steve and Chuck) depending on the day of the week. Lost and Found is another of my favorites. The Scot has finally been posting again with the Hawk and the Chipmunk.

I've been rereading some of my favorites while waiting on more chapters to be posted. Reread several of Wes's, the whole Florida Friends series from Dual Writer, The Millionaire Next Door and A Different Sort of Lifestyle by Lazlo Zalezac. Any suggestions of more to read along the same styles?

You missed out Shilo, and Memoires of a Lonely-Hearted ladies Man from my list of active serials, but you got the other top active ones I'm following.

Another good read, IMHO, is Dark Visions trilogy of "The Lottery", "Lady Guinevere", and his current latest "Unique Adventures". Check 'em out.

Actually, DV's The Lottery is already in my reading queue, along with about a hundred other recommended stories. The troubles is, th more I read, the less time I have for writing. It's hard to balance them.

I'd like to recommend "More than a Stretch" by Kilobytemangler. It really captures the fifties and the early days of computing nicely. It gets a wee bit technical in spots but you can skim over them and keep the thread of the story. Bytemangler (who is a frequent poster here) says he plans a follow-up, and I'm waiting!

To that, I'd add almost anything by Argon, Shrink 42 (especially later works) or Frank Downey.

Along with Wes's mentions below, I'd like to recommend some stories by a guy with the nick ".B" who frequents this forum. I don't think he's been mentioned yet. He has some great stories, some of which are even complete. The English may seem a bit weird from a writer living below the 49th parallel, but you'll probably puzzle it out.

I'm not sure where they're posted these days, but I'm sure the author can enlighten us.

Unfortunately Arthritis and other health problems have forced .B to take an unplanned Sabbatical - in other words unless you reread the old stories on SoL or ASSTR there have been no new postings for a while.

There have been a few teases posted on my Yahoo group and I have a new site planned, but don't have it up yet. Mostly I've just been rewriting, reformatting and re-editing a few of my older stories. I've finally managed to collect ALL of my old stories which I'm trying to salvage - at least those I feel are worth reposting. (There are 96 different stories, written at various times over the last 45 years, under 7 different pseudonyms, but some are junk so they will never be reposted.)

Thanks, dotB.

Unfortunately, you must be able to read a map. You didn't fall for my tease about living "south of the border." For those of you who don't know, dotB lives in British Columbia, which is the Canadian province just to the north of Washington State. But there's a small part of it that sticks down south of the defacto international border (54-40 or fight! ) and dotB resides in that small pocket of Vancouver Island. The city of Bellingham, Washington, is north of the capital of the province of British Columbia!

Those of you who haven't read dotB's "Car 54" are in for a treat. Very Wes-like. And that one is complete as far as I know.

Ouch - "Car 54" was written in a rush, and as well it was written when I was feeling very angry at an ex - in other words it's a bit rough in the form you'll find online. When I reread it, I disliked several portions, particularly the ending - so, I just finished completely rewriting it.

I prefer "AfterShock" - but I've even rewritten that for my new site (if and when I ever get the new site up and active.)

I am really looking forward to reading the revised "Car 54" then! The last few chapters seemed rushed to me, like you were trying to get them over with, and there was so much more detail you could have worked in. Still, it's one of my online favorites -- you had poor Chris jerked so many ways it was a wonder he knew which way was up!

"Car 54" may have been written in a rush as you say, but it's still a very good story. The thing I liked about it was that it was very low sex, like Wes's writing (or what of it Wes lets us see, anyway). Your "Aftershock" is a good story, but has more sex in it than I like or think needs to be there. I'm to the point where I like to read all of a story, and when I get to the graphic sex, which to me, little of which contributes to the plot line of many stories at all, I just skip ahead, spot checking for when the sex finishes and the author gets back to the story so I can continue reading "the good part." Getting any hint that I'm not 18? Some stories (most of 'em on SOL) end up being mostly graphic sex and there ain't much there for me to read. SOL: Plot = sex. I'm also not much of a fan of "harem" stories, which "Aftershock" seemed to be to me.

Wes's stories, and you with "Car 54" and a few others of yours, manage to indicate that sex happens without getting graphic about it. Hell, Wes's "Magic Carpet" was about a whorehouse or three. Talk about prime opportunity for graphic sex in a story! Was there any? Nope. Congrats, Wes. I don't remember any in "Car 54" either. The reader knew it went on 'cause you told us, but the "tab A - slot B - stir until ignition" ad nauseum part was largely missing.

Along with Wes and Kirby, I'd love to read the new "Car 54." If you've extracted most of the sex from "Aftershock" I'd read the new version of that, too, but if you haven't, the old one will probably do for me.

Hopefully you've managed to correct most of the typos that were in both stories while you were rewriting.

To tell the truth, most of my stories are written in a rush, or at least a series of rushes. I wrote Dawnwalker in two months, an original draft of 380,000 words or so. Absent Friend took 15 days, two of which we had no power due to an ice storm. Although I did the first nine chapters of Stray Kitten (the book I finished earlier this month) in 2008, I was under two weeks in doing the next 110,000 words. I'm either on or off.

Well, the complication in my case was similar to Danny's in your present story - only add in a health problem, an accident, and a move for additional fuss during the last few chapters.

I was breaking up with a woman who had developed a mental heath problem - I didn't realize at the time that she had gone off her meds.- heck I'd known her for ten years and never KNEW she even had a mental health problem before that.

I had just found out that I had to retire from the University - for medical reasons.

My car was hit by a truck as I was going through an intersection (I had a green light, but he had been drinking and didn't notice the red light.) - which put me in the hospital for a few days and complicated my health problems.

And to top it off I was losing my home due to the breakup with the woman. I could have fought that, but it was simpler just to move and save the hassle.

Life does influence what and how you write.

eh, much thanks in the meantime! I looked up and read Car 54, really enjoyed it, and have started Aftershock. I might add I'm sitting just across the water to the south nearly within view of Victoria, so I'm also feeling some kinship.

While not the same subject ...but still a great few great tales to read if your looking for
large series type or style story's that are very good reading
2 writers who I'd have to recomend checking out are
Fel and Mike Cropo.

Fel has several long stories
one is his Series of books about Tarrin Kael (the Kael Chronicles or Sennadar Series)(fanasty)
---The Firestaff Series
Book One - Tower of Sorcery
Book Two - The Questing Game
Book Three - Honor and Blood
Book Four - The Shadow Realm
Book Five - Weavespinner
---The Pyrosian Chronicles
Book six - Axe Of The Dwarven King
Book Seven - The Sword of Fire
Book Eight - Demons bane
and several short storys

the other is his (Sci-Fi space opera type) Subjugation Series ..
Book one - Subjugation
Book two - Insurrection
Book three - Unification
Book Four - (Forth comming)

These can be found on his site and part on his forum
he also has a few other tales posted on his forum

http://sennadar.com/wp/ and http://forums.sennadar.com/

And the little known Series of books by Mike Cropo His A Spartians War series of books is very good.
while only 4 books so far they are all ready as large as Fels Sennadar Books

Book 1 "A time of Eden and Eleves"
Book 2 "A Spartan's War"
Book 3 "A Spartan's War Discovery"
