Well, I'm back in Flag and I'll try to post a more complete trip report but just a couple of overall impressions. First is the scale of the place. I've read stories and journals, seen pictures and videos, but nothing can prepare you for the reality. This is truly something that can only be appreciated first hand. Second, as awesome as the canyon is the string quartet added a whole new dimension. If I do the trip again (and I'm thinking seriously of 2014) it will be on a string quartet trip.

I noticed on Yahoo News that the National Park Service had taken a nocturnal picture of a black bear near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. You didn't by any chance see one during your recent visit?

No, though one of the guides said they had seen one in the past. The only large animals we saw were lots of Desert Bighorn sheep.
