Well all right. I just uploaded the first chapter of Blue Beauty.
There always seem to be some bugs when I start a new book, and I found a few with this one. I think I have the worst of them stomped on, but if you come across anything, be sure and let me know.
As I've been indicating, Myleigh is probably my favorite character of all the people I've invented for this series, although it's a close call, as there are some other memorable ones coming up. As the people that are working on the Wiki are discovering, there are hundreds of these characters, many of which are just names, but sometimes a relative background character comes to life. In the book I'm currently working on, for example, one of the main characters is a guy that I haven't used since Snowplow Extra.
I'm still punching away at the writing, although my completed book list is still pretty far ahead of posting. I've explained before that it takes 600 to 700 thousand words a year to service the website, and I'm trying to stay at least a couple years ahead so there will be plenty of time for revision before I send something off to the editors. So far I'm not getting that much done annually, but I'm over 300,000 for the year so far so I have hopes of making my goal this year. I was looking over my notes this morning, and came to the conclusion that I currently have 11 projects on the drawing board, ranging from about half completed to mostly vague ideas. Those ought to keep me going for a while, at least if all of them get written.
I want to thank Wexwiz and someone who posts on the forum but has asked not to be pointed out for their help in editing my work. I think I kick out some pretty clean copy, but I had only a handful of corrections sent to me for Following the Storm, where in some of my earliest books I sometimes got more than that for each chapter. Considering that I've usually been over a story a number of times before it even gets sent to the editors, it shows just how much help they have been.
I will admit to the fact that I shoved Myleigh to the side in the last part of Dawnwalker, mostly because I had to get her out of the way to finish the story, but Myleigh is not the kind of person that will stand for being shoved to the side, so she clawed her way back to the front of my attention. In my own mind, most of the way through Dawnwalker there were some things that didn't quite make sense about Myleigh to me, but I think I managed to settle at least some of those things in my own mind in this story.
Anyway, I hope you like Blue Beauty. It's mostly a fun book, although there are a few dramatic spots here and there. For those of you that don't want to wait out the series, Blue Beauty is now available for download, and in hardcopy. See the Store page on the website for details.
Any way you do it, have fun! Now, I'm going to knock off the babble and head back to the basement to work on the next book.

I couldn't wait, and I'm glad I didn't. I got the DL Sun even and read till 2:30 this morning, and finished it Mon afternoon. Great story Wes. Thanks.
(The problem now is waiting for the chap posting to get the next story).

Aye, there's the rub, isn't it?
Let me make it worse. The next story starts a new series, and features a very interesting character that we've met in the past. About all I can tell you is that you should be glad that while winter seems to drag on forever, summer seems to fly by quickly!

Wes said above that the character was originally from Snowplow Extra and we haven't really heard of him since.

I think Wes may be talking two different stories here. He said the new story he was in the process of writing uses a character from Snowplow Extra, but the one starting after Bleu Beauty (Grin) uses one we're familiar with. I sort of guess myself that he'll keep us guessing on this one to see how far we'll take it. There's a lot of characters out there, folks. Too many for me to guess.

Oh, there's lots of possibilities.
-- Stan Warshawski has to be an interesting character, as much of a nutcase as he is. He'd have to be to have that messy an office.
-- Brenda Hodunk is obviously headed for more adventures.
-- Wendy Carter does well at overcoming adversity, and people really like stories like that.
-- Pete Chladek has been put down a lot in Dawnwalker and Alone Together, maybe it's time for his view of things.
-- Scooter Whitsell is as bad an outdoor junkie as Crystal, and has as much of a story.
-- Tabitha Augsberg is going to have a real interesting college career. She's just too good a shooter!
And there are others, many others. Ten days ago, the character from Snowplow Extra in the book I'm writing right now (not the next one to be posted by a long shot) I didn't even have in mind for using again.

I've been wondering if we will ever get anything more about Pete or Nancy Chladek. Pete I'm sure is more angry then ever. We've not heard much about Pete's take on Nancy's new lifestyle. Nancy I would hope having mommy not to run to will change. But for the better or worse?
Date Posted:00:53:04 06/11/09 Thu
It's probably a fairly safe bet that it's not Pete or Nancy Chladek, since it's the start of a new series, and either of those would probably be classified as part of Dawnwalker.
Knowing Wes, it's also probably a fair bet that it's not one of the characters he listed off just above. :)
My personal guess is Norm Niven... he's been referenced in a couple stories since we first met him, but only enough to pique our interest.

Some of these characters are interesting as supporting characters but not strong enough to warrant a good tale by themselves. Imagine, "Festus. The True Adventures of Matt Dillon's Side Kick."
Nancy and Pete stand well in their role as supporting characters. Even Chrystal's story has been told. What I'm eagerly waiting for is the inevitable blowup between Jon and Pete and Tanisha and her brother.
That being said, it takes a great storyteller to take seemingly minor events and characters and weave a great tale around them.
Wes, Good job on getting a group of fans who are discussing characters in your head and whose stories you skillfully tell.

How about Steve "Stormy" Rumsey? Seems like he would make a good character to follow up on.

Another possibility is Major E.J. Seasprunk, or EJ, the black youth befriended by Mark and Jackie in "Rocinante".

Yeah! I don't think Mark and Jackie have had a ride in an F-15 yet, and E.J. "owes" them!

Not if he takes up with Myleigh. There are teacher/student issues there to resolve but it looks as though Trey's middle name is 'Ron'. Randy has even met him - no room for uncertainty there.

Just my guess but, seems to me it is too soon for a move to Spearfish Lakes. He will finish his senior year while Myleigh starts her recording career with his being a part-time roadie. After that, the relationship can proceed.

Not sure it can't proceed now, to some degree. I think at this point in the story, Trey is no longer in Myleigh's class, so there isn't a direct student/teacher relationship any more.
