Remember that Myleigh is very hyper from the success of this off the cuff concert, so that probably diluted her normally high defenses. And Trey is a sharp cookie in his own way. The fact that he is relatively anonymous to her at this point may make it easier for her to talk to him. But yeah, you raise a valid point.

My thought is that Trey is not "one of the rather anonymous students". Trey has been in Myleigh's class for most of the term. She has read his writings and has heard his responses in class. I believe that Myleigh as a new teacher would pick up on the maturity of Trey. He has been in the Army and he is a junior in college. Another key point is that he is 25 and that is not that much younger than Myleigh because I don't believe she is more than 26 or 27 years old.
In remembering Crystal's name, I have to go by my own traits. And I know that if I saw the picture of Myleigh, Crystal and Randy, I would remember their names because of the surprise of the nature of the picture.
Thank you Wes for reminding us that Myleigh was "very hyper from the success of this off the cuff concert." Events like this do make us want to share with somebody, especially when we do not immediate friends close at hand.
I appreciate your writing and your editorial efforts. Thank you for sharing your gift.
