has some wonderful exhibits more related to passenger RR service and streetcars, but still of interest to rail fans.
Open only on Sundays - 11 to 5.

I'm sure that there are many of these around the country.

Well if you feel like riding behind steam, and were willing to travel a bit further you could drop in on 'my' turf: http://www.discoveryforest.com/?our-locomotives,73
I have run some of the engines that are on display at the Duncan Forest Museum - I ran the Hillcrest Shay a couple of times and have run both Susie and Sampson (The two Vulcan locomotives) I also rode as fireman on the Hillcrest Climax, but not at the Forest Museum.

In south central Pennsylvania near Lancaster there is the the Strasburg Railroad that travels through Intercourse and Paradise PA. Those Pennsylvania Dutch really have a way of naming things.

Indeed. The shop tour at the Steamtown National Historic Site:
http://www.nps.gov/stea
was pretty interesting. It's a working shop, so you get to see the bits & pieces of whatever they are repairing at the time of your visit.

Glad you introduced steam into this thread. My early memories, on the other side of the pond, are of Jub's and Scot's, Black 5's and Crab's. But best of all Duchesses and Princess's, (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Princess_Coronation_Class_6229_Duchess_of_Hamilton) and also a few Brit's.
Before moving to the area of God's Wonderful Railway (GWR - AKA Great Western {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Western_Railway#Locomotives}) with its Castles and Kings.

Yes, there are many of them around the country. In my area I know of three, two of which offer rides on their trains. One also has several historic locomotives and railroad cars, including a '40 et 8'.

The most impressive museum I have seen is in Wes's neighborhood, the B & O Railroad Museum. ttp://www.borail.org/

I kind of like the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Not just trains, but the damndest collection of stuff you can imagine.

Was there once as a child (won't say how long ago) but it was memorable even then.
