my period has been irregular since the age of 14. i got on the pill when i was 16, and i started to become regular. i got off the pill, and it went back to being irregular. i am now 17, and i took the birthcontrol shot once about 6 months ago. i know by now it would have worn off, and it could be a chance that i am pregnant. lately i have been very tired, moody, i cry sometimes for no reason, and i am very bloated. my breast don't hurt like i hear a lot of people say when they get pregnant, but my nipples are very sensative. what has really been bothering me though is my lower back. it just won't stop hurting. could that also been a sign of pregnancy, or not really? i really have a couple of questions, so if someone could please help me i would really appreciate it.
~is it possible to get pregnant when u have an irregurlar period?
~does back pain have anything to do with it?
~how soon after pregnancy do u start to show?

Dear Brione,

You have asked:

~is it possible to get pregnant when u have an irregurlar period?
~does back pain have anything to do with it?
~how soon after pregnancy do u start to show?

#1 - yes - anytime you are having sex, it's possible for you to get pregnant.

#2 - sometimes that may be present, but that's not really a symptom. The best thing to do would be to take a pregnancy test. You can get a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL test at a Pregnancy Center - look one up near you here:

www.optionline.org

#3 - That depends - I was nearly 6 months along before anyone could tell I was pregnant.

Hugs,
Kris

Yes. Every woman is different, but if you have sex there is a chance of pregnancy, regardless of regular or not.

~does back pain have anything to do with it?

Some women report having this symptom, some women report no symptoms for months. My back has always been sensitive so I felt back pain within the first month. If it's been over 14 days of having sex you can take a pregnancy test. Some tests require longer, but it's usually 14 to 21 days gestation a urine test will usually be accurate.

~how soon after pregnancy do u start to show?

This varies on many factors. My first pregnancy I showed when I was 3 months, my others I didn't start showing until the 5th or 6th month. Some women are able to "hide" a pregnancy the whole time. It's really important you get support from others if you are pregnancy. I don't recommend you try to hide it.

Let us know if you have any other questions and how things are going. We're here to support.

Heather
