My partner and i hAad intercourse using a condom(he has since told me that the packet was open before he used it} I am now experiencing pregnancy symptoms but its too early to do a test. At the time of intercourse neither one of us noticed a failure or fault with the condom, what im wondering is - is it possible for a condom to fail without any one of us knowing? i have never heard of this happening to anyone else, surely if it split we would have noticed?

Dear Carol,

Condoms alone are not the most effective b/c. According to the NIH, condoms are approx. 85% effective. (http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/contraception/contraception_condom.html)

I always tell ladies here that the ONLY 100% effective b/c is abstinence.

If you are already experiencing some pregnancy symptoms, you can take the early pregnancy test - "First Response" makes one that you can take 5 days prior to your start date. Of course, it's not as accurate.

It may be best for you to wait and see if you're really late. Sometimes worry & wonder can throw your system "off" and you can imagine things that aren't really there.

You can also look up a pregnancy center at this site:

www.optionline.org

they offer FREE tests and help in other ways that you may want to take advantage of.

Most of all, please make sure to take good care of yourself. Get rest, exercise, eat right, take good vitamins, etc.

Either way, pregnant or not, please post again - or email me and let me know how you're doing.

Hugs, Kris
