Hi, Candace,

Would you be willing to tell us why you feel you need to have an abortion? Perhaps we can think of something you haven't thought of. Many of us have been exactly where you are now. Some of us chose abortion and some didn't. So we are thoroughly familiar with what you are going through.

You are right to be concerned. Abortion is NOT safe. It could kill or disable you. If someone gives you positive support that makes you feel secure about having one, they may not be doing you a favor. What would be the point of that? It won't make any difference, because it will still be dangerous.

People think because abortion is legal, it's safe. Wish that were true. It's the same people doing them as before, and now they're not afraid of being caught, so they get careless.

I wish I could give you the reassurance you seek, but I can't. If you go around looking for it, and someone helps you feel it's safe, it won't make any difference. Women go in feeling completely confident, and complications are no respecter of persons. The complications don't care if you are comfortable with your decision. They can happen to anyone.

It is good that you are asking for help while you still have two weeks to think about it. Too much pressure causes panic, and people don't make good decisions when they panic. It is best that you find out all you can about the development of your baby, and about what abortion does. The more you know, the more you will be satisfied with your decision. If you can, go have an ultrasound, and look at the picture. You will run into this information sooner or later anyway. Better to have this information while you still have a choice. It is critical to make a decision you can live with, instead of living a life of regret. Above all, follow your heart. Problems can be worked out, but if you go against your heart, that is very difficult to fix later.

Please keep in touch. We will be here for you no matter what. We just won't help you hurt yourself. But if you decide to go through with an abortion, we will still be here for you. We love you, and we will be praying for you.

Hugs,
Pat

Dear Candace,

I would also be scared about the procedure if it were me that was making this decision. I have talked to women that are in your position for 25 years now and I must be honest in telling you that over the years, I've only met a couple women that were glad they made the choice to abort - and quite honestly, I noticed a lot of anger and an abusive situation with those women. The majority (so, in my experience here more than 95%) of the post abortive women I know have huge huge regrets. It's a PERMANENT answer to a TEMPORARY problem. Life circumstances change - but you cannot ever take back a decision like abortion once it's made. Have you ever faced a choice like that in the past? Have you sought out any other avenues? I want to urge you to call 1-800-395-HELP and talk to a counselor. Get armed with good information and other options you have. Take this two weeks to really search out your heart on the matter.

If you don't have the support about this already, it's only going to make recovery all the more difficult.

Like Pat said, we will be here for you no matter what.

Hugs,

Kris
