TORONTO (Oct. 28) - Two coyotes attacked a promising young musician as she was hiking alone in a national park in eastern Canada, and authorities said she died Wednesday of her injuries.
The victim was identified as Taylor Mitchell, 19, a singer-songwriter from Toronto who was touring her new album on the East Coast.
She was hiking solo on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia on Tuesday when the attack occurred. She was airlifted to a Halifax hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning, authorities said.

- What has become of the world.... no hitching posts at the bar. -- Varmit, 09:17:46 10/14/09 Wed
WORLAND, Wyo. - A northwestern Wyoming man received a citation for letting his horse wander in Worland, but not before he complained to town law enforcement officials about the absence of a hitching post in front of the local saloon.
William Schellinger was cited by Washakie County law enforcement officers for allowing his horse to run at large in this city along the Big Horn River.
Schellinger was apparently in a bar early Sunday when his horse wandered away, prompting police to follow it to make sure it didn't cause an accident with a car.
After being confronted by officers, Schellinger contended the city didn't have any hitching posts and told them they should spend their time arresting real criminals, not bothering cowboys with wayward horses.

And I bet you could find a percentage of people who enjoy this sport would say rodeo is cruel.

Rylen's Babe Ruth baseball team ended up 2nd in state this year. The championship game was a close one, 6 - 6 in the 6th inning. The other team from the Portland area ended up winning in the 7th 9 - 6.
Now we can focus on the 4-H steer. Fair is just two weeks away. If they had won, we would have spent the week before fair in Bozeman at regionals. If they had won there, we would have gone to the World Series in Utah 2 weeks after fair. Then baseball would be conflicting with football - and we can't have that! lol

They changed things to satisfy the AR's. Now they just coming back stronger. Put in the jerk down rule plus a roughing the calf rule, plus not having to stay tied for 6 seconds. Then they did some more rules in the chuckwagon races.
Now the AR's want those 2 events banned and are protesting and now peta has joined in.
Albertagirl, if your still around the boards, this is what happens when you start giving in to the AR's. The oommittee's need to start getting a backbone no matter what rodeo it is. Once a committee gives in they are like a target. Look what happened at Cheyenne once they banned the hot shot. Now they after the calf roping. Calf roping wasn't even being mentioned at Cheyenne until they gave in on the hot shot.
I suppose by next year, Gunsel Steve will be there video taping.
We all know what happened over in British Columbia when they gave in. Now they are in Calgary helping out.

- Not good -- Varmit, 06:56:40 06/30/09 Tue
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old Colorado boy died after he was thrown by a bull at a rodeo.
The Boulder County coroner's office says Richard Wayde Hamar of Yuma died Sunday while competing at the Longmont Elks Little Britches Rodeo. The event was for children ages 8 to 18.
The county sheriff's office says the bull threw Richard to the ground and stomped on the boy's chest and stomach.
The coroner's office says Richard died after the left ventricle of his heart ruptured when the bull stomped on him.
The boy's mother, Angie Hamar, says her son loved riding bulls and that no one should be blamed for his death. She says he was wearing a helmet and a vest during the competition.

Never seen any strip drinking at any of the rodeos I went to. Crystal since its your part of the world, you get involved in that?
This year's Sisters Rodeo came to a close Sunday, and organizers say it was a success - as do Deschutes County sheriff's deputies who patrolled the event.
They do say the festivities did get a little out of hand at times.
On Friday night, authorities say, one rodeo attendee became so intoxicated and belligerent, she had to spend a sobering night in jail.
Officers also say they responded to reports of strip drinking games, and a heated confrontation over loud music around 4 a.m. Sunday in the camping area behind the arena.

He was originally charged with electric cattle prod offences stemming from the Marrabel Rodeo 2004, but the RSPCA dropped these charges in return for him pleading guilty to housing a bull with horses. He received a $250 fine and $120 in lawyers fees. According to the Rodeo Associations own codeo of practice, he will no longer be able to work as a rodeo stock contractor. I have also spoken to the Minister for Animal Welfare, Gail Gago and asked for confirmation that no permits will be issued for rodeos using Noel Fraser as a stock contractor regardless.

I just got a new dvd player & recorder that also has a vcr player on it. I was watchin' the 1959 NFR and was wonderin' several things.
Tell us when the 100 point scoreing went into effect and why if you know.
When the they change the bronks to 8 seconds?
When the the calf ropers start flanking calves almost exclusively?
Who was the roper that started getting off on the right? I know one of the old sages told him he had better quit that or he would runin a good horse and his answer was, "Well, he anin't much good any way".

- Hall of Fame -- Varmit, 15:51:29 05/26/09 Tue
I always thought that rodeo was the only Hall of Fame where politics played a part. People who disserved to be in there not getting in until after their death. Or multi all around champion cowboys not getting in there until they were 50, when the next year they stick in one in his early 30's. And on and on it would go year after year.
But then I just seen that when it comes to the Hall of Fame, politics must play a part in all entertainments. I just seen where this year they are finally putting Barbara Mandrell and Roy Clark into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Well over due in my opinion

- Now this is what I call animal abuse -- Varmit, 20:59:16 05/20/09 Wed
Medicare now pays for treatments deemed safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).
The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.
In 2006, a U.K. health board decreed that elderly patients with macular degeneration had to wait until they went blind in one eye before they could get a costly new drug to save the other eye. It took almost three years of public protests before the board reversed its decision.
Hidden Provisions
If the Obama administration’s economic stimulus bill passes the Senate in its current form, seniors in the U.S. will face similar rationing. Defenders of the system say that individuals benefit in younger years and sacrifice later.

- Gremlins -- Varmit, 11:31:44 05/17/09 Sun
Got the fence down the road rebuilt, had cows in the pasture, mainly so I don't have to pump water as there is a big pond in that pasture. They were in there for 3 days. Then seen smoke again, and someone started a fire along the fence line just north of where the other fire was stopped. So now back to having to rebuild fence, once the smoldering goes away. Going to call the ranch department of the sheriff's office in the morning and see if I can get after them to investage a little harder. Seems like the fire department division not looking into it to much. They did tell me there was report of kids in the area before it started.
Suppose to get some rain this week. But being a weatherman down here, you don't have to have any accuracy to keep your job.

He just came over to get permission for his son to go hog hunting at the ranch tonight.
He told me that he took his school golf team to East Texas to the State Tourniment last week and his son was paired with Tough Hediman's son in the matches. He said he rode in the cart with Tough and had no clue who he was. Tough finally asked if he knew who he was and told him. My neighbor is a machinest and has very little interest in things of a 'cowboy' nature but he said he hit it off with Tough or 'Tuff' I guess is the way he spells it.
It was interesting hearing the story and I'll bet Tuff meets very few people that don't have a clue who he is and even fewer that don't much care and still gives them an invitation to visit him at his ranch.
I have lived next to this guy for 30 years and the only complaint I can think of is that he mows his yard so often it makes my yard look a little ragged some times.

- Almost like Farmington... we live in Indian River County -- Varmit, 09:52:11 05/01/09 Fri
Bone dry: Treasure Coast's current dry season sets record
Thursday, April 30, 2009
It’s official: It’s the driest of the dry.
According to the South Florida Water Management District, the current dry season, which began Nov. 2 and runs until the summer rains start, hopefully in late May, so far has been the driest since 1932 when precipitation records began being kept.
“We’re really at a critical point,” said Susan Sylvester, director of the district’s Operations Control Department. “And there’s no guarantee of when the wet season will kick in or where the rainfall will occur once it does.”
Ed Garland, spokesman for the St. Johns River Water Management District, said the dry season is “worst in the south, in Indian River and Brevard counties, and not as bad to the north.”
Derek Weitlich, a forecaster at the weather service in Melbourne, said there’s no reason to think the wet season will be anything but normal.
“El Nino and La Nina aren’t that big an influence on our weather as we get into late spring and summer,” Weitlich said.
“I hope we get rain and I hope it’s enough,” Sylvester said, “but as a water manager, I have to deal with what we have right now.”
And “what we have right now,” she added, is “a true hydro-meteorological drought.”
DROUGHT INDEX
The Keetch-Byram Drought Index measures soil dryness on a scale of zero to 800 with zero representing wet conditions and 800 being desert-like state. The area’s normal moisture range for summer is between 201 to 350. The following is the drought index as of Thursday:
• Indian River: 636
• St. Lucie: 614
• Martin: 671

- Speed retires.... and when he does he sells everything. -- Varmit, 13:28:05 04/14/09 Tue
Eight-time World Champion Team Roping Header Speed Williams is retiring from active rodeo competition to focus on a new team roping concept called Speed's Match Roping.
Williams, 41, claimed his ProRodeo record eight world titles with heeler Rich Skelton from 1997 to 2004 and surpassed $2 million in career earnings at last December's Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Williams made the announcement after selling his horses and listing his ranch in De Leon, Texas, for sale and moving his family to Scottsdale, Ariz.
"After a lot of consideration after the Houston rodeo, I decided this is the right time in my life to make the decision,” Williams said, “even though it happened about seven or eight years earlier than I expected.”
He first posted the announcement, accompanied by a video message, on his blog at www.matchroping.com on April 10.

An announcer and National Finals Rodeo general manager, McSpadden announced at the West Texas Fair & Rodeo for several years.
In addition to his rodeo prowess, McSpadden served many years in the Oklahoma Legislature and in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Guthrie was home to the NFSR from 1984-2000 before moving to Amarillo (2001-05) and then to Hobbs, N.M., for the past three years.
The NFSR has been held in Oklahoma 25 times in the event's 50-year history.
The annual championship features the top 15 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association steer ropers.

- PeTA After Ty -- Crystal, 11:50:58 03/23/09 Mon
From Fox News:
"Exclusive: PETA Going After DWTS Bull-Rider Ty Murray
When he’s done on "Dancing With the Stars" will Ty Murray be the next spokesman for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals? It seems unlikely given that he makes a living romping around rodeos, but the animal rights activists are already digging in their claws in the hope that Murray’s fellow foxtrotters slap him around a bit.
The animal-unfriendly cowboy might be breathing easier now that Belinda Carlisle, who starred in PETA’s first-ever "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad, has been eliminated— but the Go-Go was just one of several in the PETA posse on the show this season. Holly Madison and Steve-O have each starred in their own anti-fur ads, and Denise Richards once wrote to PETCO on PETA's urging the company to end its sales of live animals. Even judge Carrie Ann Inaba has stepped up to underscore the importance of spaying and neutering.
"Maybe Murray should avoid mentioning the fact that he makes his living off the broken backs of animals— but then again, considering his history of eight-second rides, Murray might not have much more time left on the show to worry about it," a rep for PETA told Tarts in an exclusive statement on Thursday.

- One passed hopefully more to come. -- Varmit, 21:39:10 03/21/09 Sat
HELENA – The state Senate has given final approval to a bill that would make it easier to open and operate a horse slaughtering plant in Montana.
Friday's 27-23 vote in favor of House Bill 418 sends the bill to Gov. Brian Schweitzer for consideration. Schweitzer has not indicated his position on the bill.
The bill, sponsored by Republican Rep. Ed Butcher of Winifred, expressly allows horse-slaughter plants to be built in Montana and offers them legal protections if their license is challenged in court.
It would require those challenging a slaughter facility permit to post a bond worth 20 percent of its construction costs. It would also prohibit courts from halting construction of a facility once it's been approved by the state.
Supporters have said a slaughter plant would bring investment and jobs to the state and provide a place for people to dispose of old or sick horses, rather than abandoning them.

Now Austin has come up with the same format. Except they want $6.99 a performance or $75.00 for all 15 performances to watch their rodeo on the Internet.
Thanks but no thanks.

Feeling old? You’re not alone.
New research suggests that old age actually begins even before we hit the ripe old age of 30.
The research, done at the University of Virginia, indicates that our mental abilities begin to decline from the age of 27, after reaching a peak at 22.
The researchers studied 2,000 men and women aged 18 to 60 over a seven year period. The people involved, mostly in good health and well-educated, had to solve visual puzzles, recall words and story details and spot patterns in letters and symbols.
Similar tests are often used to diagnose mental disabilities and diseases, such as Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
The research, led by Professor Timothy Salthouse, reported in the academic journal Neurobiology of Aging, found that in nine out of 12 tests the average age at which the top performance was achieved was 22.
The first age at which performance was significantly lower than the peak scores was 27 — for three tests of reasoning, speed of thought and spatial visualization. Memory was shown to decline from the average age of 37. In the other tests, poorer results were shown by the age of 42.

Now this:
HOUSTON — A pregnant woman who was among a group of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo trail riders has died from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning after fumes from a generator apparently seeped into the trailer where she was sleeping.
Four other females, aged 13 to 19, were taken to area hospitals and are recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said Monday.
The 19-year-old woman, who was five months pregnant, was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday in the trailer at a Waller County camp site being used by the Prairie View Trail Ride Group, the Houston Chronicle reported. Her name has not been released. The child she was carrying did not survive, Waller County sheriff's officials said.
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death. Sheriff's officials do not expect any criminal charges to be filed.

Among the finds is a near-intact mammoth skeleton, a skull of an American lion and bones of saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, bison, horses, ground sloths and other mammals.
The La Brea Tar Pits ranks among the world's famous fossil sites. Between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago, mammoths, mastodons, saber-tooth cats and other Ice Age beasts became trapped by sticky asphalt that oozing upward through cracks and fissures in the ground. - I know of several stories like this one. People piss away their whole life then cry about the rich boss. -- Hap, 07:21:57 02/15/09 Sun
There have been some rumblings around the office about the
future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As
you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents
many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy
doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten
your job however, is the changing political landscape in
this country.
However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which
might help you decide what is in your best interests.
First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts
employers against employees, you have to understand that for
every business owner there is a back story. This back story
is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and
hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've
seen my big home at last years Christmas party. I'm
sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some
idealized thoughts about my life.
However, what you don't see is the back story.
I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived
in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire
living apartment was converted into an office so I could put
forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way,
would eventually employ you.
My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every
dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty
Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't
have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends,
while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I
was married to my business - hard work, discipline, and
sacrifice.
Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week
and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they
earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes
and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the
Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was
trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing
item that didn't look like it was birthed in the
70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a
life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my
money, and my life into a business with a vision that
eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these
luxuries my friends supposedly had.
So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am,
mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I
don't. There is no "off" button for me. When
you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend
all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I
eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There
is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour.
Every day this business is attache d to my hip like a 1 year
old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits
of that garden - the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations
... you never realize the back story and the sacrifices
I've made.
Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made
all the right decisions and saved his money, have to
bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that
overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same
luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life
for.
Yes, business ownership has is benefits but the price
I've paid is steep and not without wounds.
Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and
employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of
marginal benefit and let me tell you why:
I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I
don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes.
Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers
compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I
have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then
guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him.
Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting
that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th,
I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for
quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check
was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the
economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying
jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a
flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home
pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare
check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the
economic stimulus of this country.
The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your
paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I
mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get
rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is
why your job is in jeopardy.
Here is what many of you don't understand ... to
stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the
economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I
didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of
depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I
would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated
substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed
the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and
better salaries. But you can forget it now.
When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you
don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that
will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you
defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America
and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it,
not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington
believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.
So where am I going with all this?
It's quite simple.
If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my
reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your
co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay
for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future.
Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.
Then, I will close this company down, move to another
country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done
with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to
the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs
will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.
So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of
the economy; it will be at the hands of a political
hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the
constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever.
If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach,
retired, and with no employees to worry about ...
Signed, Your boss

- This shouldn't be offensive to anybody. It's just a proposed settlement of what they want and what we want. Simple. -- Hap, 06:29:47 01/28/09 Wed
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot, and will not ever agree on what is right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.
Here is a model dissolution agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy!
Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military.
You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them).
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street.
You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens.
We'll keep the hockey moms and rednecks.
We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.
You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
You can have the peaceniks and war protestors.
When our allies or way of life are under assault, we'll provide them job security.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values..
You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain.
You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars.
You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.
You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors.
We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem.
I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot.
Since it often so offends you we'll keep our history, our name, and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like minded patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete and hang on. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR on
who will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall.
law student and an American
P.S. Also, we'll throw in Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda, and we'll gladly put prayer back in our schools!

- Hap, on your post about Marchi on PBS, I was at the Sunday show and Marchi got Flint to put him on camera and plugged his steak house. Seems he is quite a business promoter. He was quite pleased. I'm with you on this and I think he would get on anything for his pride and to promote his steak house. -- ZD, 13:21:37 01/27/09 Tue

- Have you heard about this? -- Hap, 06:39:37 01/24/09 Sat
Here's a sample of what it's about.
Removing 6.5 billion gallons of milk would result in nearly 320,000 of cattle going into the beef market.
Adding an additional 320,000 head of cattle to the beef market could reduce the price of cull cows by 24-49%.
This plan will drive up milk prices for consumers while driving down the prices for our cows and our income.

Had a person tell me they are stopping people driving crew cab dually's pulling trailers and checking to see if they have a CDL license.

- Haven't heard that around here. My son has three trucks for oil and gas work and two of them require a CDL, but the other doesn't. It has to do with the GVW or something and I can't tell much difference in the trucks unless they're parked side by side. Might be a state thing. (NT) -- Hap, 15:33:46 01/23/09 Fri
- Its 26,000 pound or over on the 2 rigs. Some dulleys are what around 23000? So even a small trailer would get you caught. I heard they stopping them in Florida, Alabama and Texas for sure. Read where they getting horse show people, rodeo people, cattlemen, etc. It will likely spread to more states, the states are getting money hungry, but they will spend multi-millions to turn a wooded area into protected land. Or re-route a river that ends up flooding people who never was flooded, then spend millions more to put it back to its natural course. Morons, I think is the best description. - Geese -- Hap, 08:28:24 01/17/09 Sat
I remember hearing about Steve flying an ultra lite over an area where there were goose hunters and he led the geese out of there.
He could save some geese by flying around airports and keep them from getting sucked into the jet engines.

- Not many of the Hollywood crowd stay married that long -- Varmit, 18:05:21 01/14/09 Wed
LOS ANGELES (Jan. 14) - Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88.
In 1944, Montalban married Georgiana Young, actress and model and younger sister of actress Loretta Young. Both Roman Catholics, they remained one of Hollywood's most devoted couples. She died in 2007. They had four children: Laura, Mark, Anita and Victor.
Montalban suffered a spinal injury in a horse fall while making a 1951 Clark Gable Western, "Across the Wide Missouri," and thereafter walked with a limp he managed to mask during his performances.
