natural techniques to improve concentration -- jason alster, Tue, Mar 23 2004, 10:48:05
Hello- Love this site
I am a biofeedback practicioner and learning problems coach. I have treated in Israel about 250 children with ADHD, dyslexia, and test anxiety. I use a very special technique that I developed called multimodality integrated biofeedback- or BEING IN CONTROL- It is a combination of GSR biofeedback to help improve concentration and relaxation- and measures concentration abilities objectively. The annimated GSR biofeedback from electro dermal activity is combined with yoga and Zen exercises for children, proper nutrition, and accelerated learning techniques. Such as associative memory- speed reading-mind mapping - and how to pass exams. I am now training fascilitators and therapists this technique and am also available for workshops. Many of the techniques I used were published in the colorful self help book " BEING IN CONTROL- Natural techniques for increasing your potential and creativity for success in school"
The book is with Amazon.com (USA). Research and articles about this unique method can be found at www.geocities.com/jasonalster
Thanks
Jason Alster

The Main hi2u Website Is Down -- Chris Hayes, Tue, Aug 09 2005, 22:08:34
Well, unfortunately, the main hi2u website is down (hi2u.org) and there's nothing that we can do to fix it as it's not to do with us. So, for the time being you should go to the hi2u.org.uk website which you can do by clicking on the link below.
http://www.hi2u.org.uk
Hopefully we'll be back online soon, but we are updating and adding more to the hi2u.org.uk site as fast as we can so that it includes more of what the old site had on it.
Bye,
Chris Hayes

advice needed -- beth, Tue, Jun 04 2002, 22:18:00
Hi,
its been a while since i've posted any messages but a friend of mine is in need of some advice.
Basically, her son is on ritalin and is not putting weight on very much and she has been told by the doctor that if he does not put on a reasonable amount of weight before their next appointment, he is taking him off of ritalin. The childs ritalin has already been reduced from 45mg per day to 30mg per day and as a result of this, he is becoming irritable and depressed. My friend is really worried what the effects of taking him off the ritalin may be as he is already becoming a handfull on the reduced dose, and the worst part is that the child actually knows that the ritalin helps him when it is at its higher dose and all the things that have been achieved on ritalin are now being undone.
So if anyone has any ideas on either, how to help her son gain some weight or, how to convince the doctor not to take him off the ritalin, my friend and I would be very grateful.
Beth

- New BBC Series looking for working parents -- hi2u, Tue, May 31 2005, 23:45:28
New BBC Series looking for working parents
The hugely successful BBC series ‘Who Rules The Roost?’ gives working mums and dads the opportunity to take on the role of stay-at-home parent for two weeks. Few working parents have the opportunity to test the waters before deciding whether to put their career on hold and focus on full time parenting, but the BBC is giving parents this potentially life changing opportunity. We’ve just begun a nationwide search for our new series, and would like to hear from parents who are interested in taking part. The series will be transmitted in autumn 2005 and filming will take place during the summer holidays. Interested couples should contact us for more information:

- Mental problems -- d, Fri, Oct 31 2003, 16:56:58
hey all, I just wanted to see if anyone still reads the things that are posted here. The reason why I wonder is because all the entries on this site are kind of old. So, if people still read or interact on this site, let it be known by giving some signs like writing something or commenting on what is on your minds.
I think I am going crazy though people. I keep seeing strange things in my head. Strange images like the one where I feel as though I am constantly trying to run away from some unknown force. I have this feeling like I should be doing something but I don't know what. Probably school work, but I don't want to. I should be thankful for having parents who took the time to adopt me, but I am stuck in this world of mine in my head where i keep thinking about my anxiety, fears, and all. Instead of running away from it all I should face my deamons. If I die, my spirit will remain on this earth in someway or another, maybe to haunt a particular place. Or maybe just so that I can see what it is like to be in a state where i dont have to fear death since I will already be dead. Stupid deamons you may haunt me right now and are getting the best of me, but I damn it I will defeat you. I promise. I promise!!!!
Thanks for letting me get some of this out into the open.

- Banging my head against a brick wall? -- Beth, Sat, Dec 20 2003, 19:44:24
Hi Andy and everyone,
It's been ages since I posted here but I still come and read all the messages :). Things have gone from bad to worse here. I finally got Nat into a special school but he was excluded for a week after just 9 days at school, the LEA refuse to give us a taxi and insisted on him catching the school bus even though I told them that after all the crap he has been through in the last 4 years that putting him on a bus full of kids with an unqualified escort was asking for trouble, and trouble has happened. On Wednesday he hit the escort, and the bus company decided to ban him from the school bus, although they didnt bother to tell us on Wednesday evening but waited until he went out for the bus on Thursday morning all excited about his first school carol service in 4 years only to refuse to let him on the bus and tell me he was permenantly banned from the bus, I rang school to see if someone could help me get him to school and they refused to help so he ended up being excluded from the Christmas preceedings at school once again, which devastated him, I must point out that i wasn't told about the incident with the escort on Wednesday when they brought him home and wasn't made aware of it until 8:35 on the Thursday morning when they refused to let him on the bus, even though they have my telephone number and managed to telephone school to inform them by means of a message on the answer machine theWednesday evening. So anyway, I phoned the transport dept. at the LEA and the Social services transport dept and have basically been told that because he was violent on the bus they now can't provide him with any transport to school on heath and saftey grounds, even though it is them who insisted he should be on the bus in the first place, and all they will offer is that I should get a taxi every day to and from school and they will reimburse me after a month. Apart from the fact that this would cost me around £450 which I just don't have, I also won't get back the cost of getting myself home from school in a morning or to school in the afternoon which would cost me another £50 a week that i would have to find myself. I really don't know what i am meant to do next, I have no option but to keep him off school again as there is no way i can afford their proposal, apart from the fact that it would mean me travelling for about 4-5 hours a day every day.
Any advice would be apprieciated
Beth

- Cold Agglutinin -- Anonymous, Thu, Apr 15 2004, 15:39:25
I too have a hidden disability. In medical terms it is called cold agglutinin. It is in the rare disease disorders category. I don't look "sick" or "disabled" and have faced people's preconceptions about what a "handicapped" person should look like. I have lived with it for over 20 years, but it severely limits my day-to-day activities in certain temperatures. Travel is, can be, and has been a huge problem as well. Family, friends, and co-workers are challenged to fully understand the limitations of this condition. It limits me in every way in my life. If anyone knows of a support group on line for this condition, I would appreciate the link. If you are living with this condition or know anyone with this condition, I would appreciate a contact/reply.

Is there any sites out there with an easy to follow thing explaining it all so I can just give them half the explanation and point them to it for the rest of it. Please excuse my spelling because I have Dylexia too.

Disabled with Polymyositis, Back to Work after 2 1/2 yrs -- Valerie Thomas, Thu, Dec 11 2003, 2:52:28
I am one of those people with an invisible disability. Mine is called Polymyositis and is a rare autoimmune disease which destroys muscle tissue and causes pain and weakness. I stopped working in Jan of 2001 because I literally had to. I hated to as I had a successful career. I am now working at home again and loving it!! I work my own hours all on the computer and the phone. I am literally working in my p.j.s. This would be a great job for other people who like me can no longer make it back and forth to work on a daily basis due to CFS, MS or any other disease which forces you to quit your job. If anyone wants more information and would like to partner with me, I would be happy to share the info. Click on my web site at:

The only thing my search picked up was a phrase saying "Kannertype Autism or Asperger's Syndrome" on a french site. I wonder if Kannertype and Asperger's could be the same thing ??
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Andy
I have just read a whole chain of messages and links which ended up with your article about disability logos. The last reply to your article was from Dana who was looking for a T-shirt with the disability logo on the back. I know I am probably way too late for Dana's purposes however I thought some visitors may be interested.
When my son was younger (he has ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome) it was very difficult to keep an eye on him all the time when we were out in public. I found that having printed T-Shirts was a great way to keep track of where he was.
I have a standard computer with a standard printer, nothing fancy. But with a sheet of T-shirt transfer paper, a plain T-shirt and an iron, you can design any T-shirt you like. Brilliant at making sure your child is visible to you as you can make the design something unique that only he/she will be wearing.

My lovely little .but 'Different' little boy! -- Terry Slade, Mon, Aug 11 2003, 1:16:31
This site is a godsend for anyone who has a little boy, who is obviously 'different' yet still beautifully uinique!
My 'Little Richard' is 4. (Almost 5 he will say!) but on occasions acts like he is an infant in temper and behaviour..! .. Yet other times, seems way ahead of even all the adults in our company!
ANYONE!! .. Explain please!!!
How can a 4 year old little boy recite off NUMBER for NUMBER the last 4 weeks (and beyond!) lottery numbers PRECICELY! .. Yet get so upset ... EXCEPTIONALLY and 'over the top so' when he sees a simple thing like a 'Helium balloon' escape its owner and head skywards ..?
He brings us .. INDIVIDUAL strands of hair, like he has found something special, believe all of them have been lost by his mum.!!? (Bless!)
A more loving and at times exceptionally intelligent child would be hard to find .. But he just doesnt behave like other kids! (He is our 4th Son .. Previous sons aged 21, 18, 12 ..!!!)
Is it our fault for having kids so late? We are 40 and 44 respectively..?

Why do we keep making up new names? -- Chris, Fri, Jul 04 2003, 17:51:11
Hi, I'm 15 and I've just done a article saying why it's silly to keep renaming things like disability, impairment, and all the other names we've collected to mean disability.
The reason why I say this is because it is important for people to be able to say "I've got a disability" for reasons of praticality and selfesteam. I say selfesteam because I don't feel that it's right for people to hide behind a sugar coated name - or sometimes just a collection of qualities like "I'm artisticly motavated and creatively adept" which I think is just silly. As I said in my article; there's a time for telling people what you're good at and there's also one for telling people that you're disabled.
Anyway as I was saying I don't feel it's right for people to hide behind colourful explainations that don't make much sense, people who have disabilities should be able to have pride in themselves and not need silly exueses.
In my opinion the disability socialmodel is going backwards if people can't say freely that they have a disability, neurological, or physical. I'm not saying people should greet strangers with "hi, I'm disabled" but we could refrain from sugar coated names when talking to our own parents perhapps!!!
Anyway, I hope after reading this you read the article, here's a link to it:
Why Not Call Disability, Disability?
I also hope that you understand the points that I'm trying to put across too.
Bye bye, Chris.
P.S. Sorry about the bad spelling, but don't worry the article I've told you about I have spell checked.

- dyslexia -- Hi2u, Fri, Jul 04 2003, 0:50:00
Hello everyone
I have recently placed an article by Sue Bell titled "dyslexia and stress". This is a very interesting and worth while reading. However there is also another reason for telling you about this. While I have standard colours use throughout site so you can have extra help identifying site your visiting regardless of, which page your visiting. I'm also trying to use colour to support dyslexic people visiting this site. I'm hoping the article "dyslexia and stress" will demonstrate how a little colour may have dyslexic people identify information they are reading.
Anyway perhaps a little difficult trying to explain take a look at this page and let me know what you think about the text layout and using of colour. Click on the following link to visit this page:

Brussels -- Chris, Wed, May 14 2003, 21:48:09
Hi!
I just thought of something really interesting to put on the forum. It's about Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Basically Brussels really inspired me and opened up my eyes in many ways and to many things so I was wondering whether any of the people that come to this forum have been to Brussels, and if so whether they could leave some messages about what they liked most about it.
Just so that you know, the reason why I'm talking about all this is because I went to Brussels about a week ago. The reason why I was in Brussels last week was because me and my dad were invited to a D.I.T.T. conference at the European parliament.
Anyway, I hope some people reply to this it would be lovely to hear what other people think about Brussels. In a few weeks I'll reply to this message and tell you all what I liked most.
Anyway thanks for listening, bye from Chris :-)
