Hi Charity
Unfortunately everyone is different so what may affect one child, cuasing them to go "hyper" could be quite ok for another child.
You will need to keep a diary of everything your son eats and what his behaviour is like so that if he becomes very hyper you can eliminate the foods that may have caused this.
The most common foods/chemicals that appear to affect children with ADHD are artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and flavour enhancer. (E100's, E200's, E300's and (E)621). Cafiene, sugar, fruit, almonds, fizzy drinks, sweets and chocolate are also known to trigger hyperactivity. My own son is also affected by fumes from paint, wallpaper paste and glue. We also avoid coloured bubble bath and coloured toothpaste.
You will find more detailed information and links to other sites at http://www.angel-images.com/adhd&as.htm (ADHD/AS Diet Help page)
Hope this helps, if I can help in any other way don't hesitate to ask
Take care
Anj
