Hi and welcome to this forum Linda

That was an interesting contribution you made. I agreed with you on how valuable a regular routine is from one week to the next. I do think homework should be part of the routine however some dyslexic people may find homework difficult to maintain and perhaps this needs to be geared towards individuals rather than a standard for all!

Its also interesting what you say about organisation and planning. Do you have a ideas for specific tools towards helping with these issues? Ie would computer mapping programmes be useful and other software?

Organisation, planning and short term memory are classic symptoms of dyslexia and ADHD that can lead children to feel they are not coping. Sometimes by creating a fun component towards participating with these tasks it can create enthusiasm to keep young students stay on target.

I have found some programmes designed for children interesting for myself to participate due to that fun aspect that helps work not look daunting or boring.

Do you think as schooling enters secondary level that there's a tendency for the fun aspect not to proceed and hence many young students find it difficult to cope! Often difficulties with dyslexia and ADHD don't appear to cause too many difficulties until they start secondary school.

Also the whole concept of organising, planning and time tables are very different from primary school to secondary school maybe some young students can't cope with this change!

Well just some thoughts of mine that I would appreciate your views on these issues.

Please note I use voice recognition software due to severe dyslexia some words may not be words recognised correctly.

Andy
