Interesting issue you have raised I guess I had much of those problems at school along with dyslexia. I certainly don't think the education system helped me however that was a very long time ago. My son Chris has ADHD and various co-morbid conditions including Asperger's Syndrome and much more. He has written an article that is on the Hi2u site. I have both a physical impairment and neurological impairments. I personally believe mainstream schooling is the ideal situation. However I don't believe people with hidden impairments like ADHD are getting appropriate support. I also believe the teaching profession are finding it difficult to understand hidden impairments so maybe mainstream schooling isn't appropriately geared up at present.
I was very much hoping to get some articles from students with neurological conditions and parents to debate this issue further. I do have one article from a parent whose son has dyslexia regarding specialists schooling and you can see this article with the following link.
His new school completely accommodates his disability.
