I have a 9 yr old girl ,dispraxia runs in the family on my husbands side . My daughter did not start speaking untill she was 4yrs old so you could imagin i was out of my mind and clearly to say stalked the health visitor and bomb barred her answer machine untill some one listened and they did well i thought they did . Then i came up against school and the SEN CO teacher to put it bluntly they will not asses my child i have offered to pay for it our selfs they say thats fine but we dont have to do anything about it if we are already accomidating your childs needs. My child is struggling we always praise her and all the improvement has been done at home school cannnot take credit for it. I recently had a 6mnth review on her IPP and the teacher turned round and said "well lets face it your child is never going to be academically qualified" and this is the teacher who i think should of retired by now. Watch this space school my child is starting hopefuly next month extra lessons after school in another school it cost 45 pounds a mnth yes we have had to budget but we will show them and my advice get your child to read 30 mins at bed time get them to do sentences out loud eg we went to the park to feed the ducks then you do one. Also the writting side you write a short story then ask your child to do one the majority of the time it will look and sound alien but slowely you will get there and one day they will bring a story to you not perfect but thats when you will know your on the right track good luck to every one who reads this and can relate to it, but us mums and dads can and will do eveything for our children with or without the school help.
