Hi Tom, My son was diagnosed at about 3 years old by a speech therapist and he had speech therapy until he was 7 years. it only ceased because we moved to where there was no health care campus. I continued doing what I knew thinking it was just his speech until now ( he is 15 this year)His schooling has not been affected although I kept him in Pre-primary school for 2years because his birthday is late in the year. He is doing exceptionally well at school topping his class ( this can happen to children with dispraxia) he loves Maths, Science Society and Environment, English he got a B. so things are good there. With him being a year by age above the other children in his class He appeared to be ok although i knew he was inmature still for that class. it is now at nearly15 that i have discovered all the other things that children with dispraxia can have like inmaturity, emotional mood swings, struggling to get to sleep and night mares. It is the emotions that worry me him crying when others do, his insurcities or lack of confidents at home with me (although I think this just might be a phobia or obsessive behaviour)He does have all of these things including lack of danger, extremes of emotions, doesn't enjoy sports ( he does play water polo)although I push him to play.He is a child that loves peace and will do anything to have his life without stress or sorrow in it. He wants to be a pilot on commercial planes. so lets see what happens>Please give your son all the encouragement you can and do not knock him. I think that is why Josh is so bright. I always told him he was and with this came confidents. this is what they need. Mine son is very affectionate and a joy to have. Enjoy it could be worse.
