Subject: How to get a diagnosis of adult ADD

Hello,
I am a 43 year old mother who was misdiagnosed with mild bipolar when I attempted to get diagnosed for the ADD I know I have. Can anyone advise me on a route to get diagnosed properly, or whether it is possible to purchase ritalin any other way. Also, I intend to take it sporadically, like now - as I haven't yet filed last years tax return and am too overwhelmed with it so far, and would be interested to hear from other adults that manage to do this; ie take it on days when extra focus is needed only. Many thanks in anticipation of a response.
