Assalaamu Alaykum

I would prefer that Sheikh Morsey answers this question please. If not, then one of the other SHEIKHS of this website..no offense to the students of knowledge.

if a father who says he's muslim, but doesn't have the characteristics of a muslim(doesn't pray, doesn't fast, doesn't pay zakat, doesn't go to jumah, etc. etc.,) Does he have the right to get custody of his children. I know that we are not to cut off the ties of kinship, so I'm sure he is allowed visitation rights because of that, but not full custody...So what is the answer to this question and the supporting daleel..

Until the age of 14 my mother told me that i did not have to perform my isha prayers because i was young and the prayer is quiet long (ie the full 4 sunnah,4 fard 2 sunna, 3 witr) At that time my knowledge of islam was limited and i believed her, at the age of 15 i realised that it was fard on me to perform all my prayers including isha. Can i make up for the missed prayers, is there any fault on my mother.

Salaam alikum
I have become very familiar with the ideology of the Salaf way of islam and i had a few questions that arose in my mind when i sat down and pondered.
first
1) the concept of the salafi that calls the muslims to a more refined deen and following only quran and sunnah is great, undoubtedly this quest of knowledge is forever for the believer but if everyone was to completely follow this ideology and just learn forever would the khilafah ever be established? when is the next step? and how is it taken?
2) Why does it seem like the salafi people try to make the great deen of islam secular from the state?

please answer my questions ASAP. Jazakallah khair

5-I heard from differnt scholers discussing what will happen to the world in the future in the topic of the wars going on around the world Arabs, Muslims, isreal.even thou Allah is the only one who knows our future, but he does give us all the information required for us to know whats going to happen to us in the quoran, so can you please tell me your point of view of whats going to happen to all of us depending on the information gathered from the koran?

As Salaam Wa Alaikum Rahmatullah

Recently I was having a conversation with a sister who claimed that as Muslims we are not allowed to wear dread locks in our hair. She never provided any daleel and support with her comment. Additionally she went on to say that it is haram because we are suppose to comb our hair every three days, and we are not supposed to have "nappy hair". I have a great problem with Muslims making things haram that Allah (swt) has made halal and making things halal what Allah (swt) has made haram. I have never heard of anything of the sort and I would greatly appreciate any information that you have to assist in clarifying this matter.
I do understand that some people seem to think that wearing dread locks consists of never washing the hair. This is truly a misconception and quite frankly it has to be washed more often than hair that is braided or any other hairstyles to prevent it from collecting dirt and lint. Although the hair is permanently locked and can only be removed by cutting them out of the hair, water does penetrate the scalp when making a ghusl as required. The hair is wiped over when making wudu as required. Insha-Allah please forward any helpful information regarding this matter.

Salaam alaikum

OK I have a bunch of questions as I am TOTALLY CONFUSED on how to do this whole marriage thing at all.

I'm adopted, so I understand that under Islamic law, I DON'T have a mahram. I've chosen to leave the whole subject of finding my biological family alone, I think there is a reason ALLAH chose things to be as they are. If I'm supposed to find out who they are, it will happen. If not, well, it won't matter WHAT I do or HOW MUCH money I spend, it's STILL not going to change Allah's will.....so there you go.

So first off, I know I'm supposed to have a guardian.
HOW do I choose one? As far as I know we don't have ONE recognized leader at our mosque, which I've read is the first option, so what do I do? Can I just choose someone who I trust? That's what I've done, but I want to know if I'm right or not.

And CAN I meet with the brother with his wife present since I don't have a mahram? We're obviously not alone if his wife's there but I've also heard that the wife isn't sufficient, it's got to be a mahram. Obviously, that's a problem too then since I don't have one.

And travel. As I said, I don't have a mahram. I also live in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. There are NO single brothers out here to marry, literally, I've checked. What do I do?

OK, I'll stop for now inshaAllah, I may find that some of my other questions are answered when someone responds to these.

Shukran

Assalaamu'alaikum ......

1st and 4most, i would wanna request for imam morsey to answer my question here....... no offense to other scholars or teachers plz.

bear with me as this may be long.

i've been in this jama'ah for abt 10 over yrs.... ever since i converted to Islam. now there is a question in me, whether i should take my leave or stay....as i was confronted by the in-charge of the jama'ah just now.

well we r not a terror based missionary but an educational one...... i come from singapore, a place where all practicing muslim has been hit of suspicion by the govenment after the JI issue.... i juz wanna be transparent here i've nothing to hide to neither parties! i reverted to islam that i could practice it.

i am a person who grow a beard...the full one. yes many discriminations i've underwent.....as ppl call me OSAMA BIN LADEN at shopping malls and other public places..... actually i dun mind those infidels calling me that....as they dunt know what Islam is all about. its our responsibility to educate them.

but lastnight, to my surprise. my ustadz confronted me saying that, for this new year.... i have to shave off my beard so that i can retain my position as a frontier for da'wah....so that if at any case my appearance may not arise suspicion by the internal security department of singapore. he added that he was adviced by his ustadz in a malaysian university that the times r hot and that i should remove my beard.(he is a PHd holder in usuluddin) this practice is juz a sunnah and not wajib.

months back.... a person came to me to learn to recite the Qur'an. and left after the 1st lesson. gossips taught me that his hasitation to study from me was bcoz of my appearance (BIG built and a strict bearded face).

bcoz of this event which took place, that malasian ustadz said that by me not changing my appearance, i'll be sin for being an obstruction for others to study the Qur'an.

now, what i wanna get from u is that, i need a second opinion on this issue and will there come a time where practicing the sunnah be sinful?

personally i feel very cheated by these muslims.... all these while for 10 yrs +, i've always told myself, that i must stick here and stand up for islam for whatever tribulations occur.... but now, y issit that my own muslims brothers r turning their backs on me for i've done nothing wrong. y issit that they cant support me if anything were to happen as to their guess? moreover....NOTHING really has happened now! plz answer my agony and tears.

wassalam

As Salaam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

If a man has had sexual relations with his wife after her menses has passed, & then later he decided that he wants to divorce her, does he have to wait until after she has had a new menses in order to pronounce talaaq? Or is it only forbidden for him to make this pronouncement during her menses.

Like for example, her menses ended on Monday. They had relations later that day, & then on Wednesday he decided that he wanted to divorce her. Is this permissiable, or does he have to wait until her next menses has ended?

May Allah bless you for helping me to become more clear in my understanding of this noble deen. Ameen.

Asalam alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu

Is there any proof from the Qur'aan and/or Sunnah that one should not put their feet on the Quran, raise their feet to the Quran, put it on the floor etc. ? I understand that it is a sign of respect & good manners to not do it, but is there any evidence from the Qur'aan or the Sunnah as to how the book should be handled (other than being pure when handling it)? If these things are not explicitly forbidden, what should be said/done if you see someone doing this?

As salaamu alaikum

I'm a posing this question for a sister that recently embraced Islam. Before accepting Islam she legally married by the state only a muslim. Their marriage was also performed by a minister. Her "husband" is currently serving a 40 year sentence in prison as well. She wants to know if her marriage to him is valid according to Islam since she is now muslim and if she is able to remarry now. BarakaAllah feek.

Salam Sister,

I read Shaikh Salih Al-Munajjid's Book called Correcting people's mistakes. it is an excellent book and teachies the different methodology of correcting peopole's mistakes.

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an you are the best people chosen for mankind because you enjoin good and forbid the evil and you believe in Allah.

and other verse like it in the Qur'an and Hadeeth.

My question if i see a brother doing something wrong and i tell him sincerrely. Then why do they attack me like "what about your selve you are not an angel or they may ask me a question on the topic of Islam any question if i don't know they say youu don't know about Islam and you are telling other people"

Sister i am learning my Islam.

Even practicing brothers i give them advice or i try my best to correct their mistakes but they slap it back of my face. What should i do?

I was listening to Abu Usama Dhabi cassette that he did and he says the same thing that when i brother gives another brotehr advice he should accept it because this is a charrector of a believer.

Asslamo Alikum wr. wb.

I have a question which has been bothering me on/off for a long time and disturbing my daily life. May Allah reward you if you would please listen to this and help me answering.

My issue is few years ago just to get the blessing of Allah, I made a simple promise (Not Qasam or Vow or Oath) by just saying similar but with the same following intention
"ya Allah I will never watch TV again in my life" My intention was not for Qasam but a simple promise. Off course I did not have enough knowledge of Islam at that time comprae to now and I did not know about it. Any way later I wathced TV as there was a Islamic lecture and Traweeh from Mecca.

I felt guilty and I asked one of my friends who was not a scholar, he said you made a promise and you broke it, so you dont have to pay kafarah and just make istaghfar and you can watch TV for religious purposes and will not get gunah every time you watch it. Your promise has been canceled.

I am asking you, when I made a promise for not doiong something forever or never like watching TV, and after wathcing first time, is my promise canceled and I am out of contract? or everytime I watch TV I am getting gunah for breaking the promise? I paid kafara and fed ten people for the safeside.

May All give you the Ajar.

Assalamualaikum.

I asked this question after the lecture, on December 18.

I come from Pakistan, and was married 7 months ago.

In our society, people (especially in the lower middle classes) expect their daughter in law to be silent, submissive and to serve the husband's family.

I do not subscribe to this view, and have been friendly and respectful to my inlaws, but have not considered myself obligated to do anything except tend to my husband's needs.

I've moved away, and since my inlaws have behaved in a manner I consider extremely disrespectful and immoral. They have taken my possessions without my permission, refusing to return it. They have not responded to my requests to return it, or for them to explain why. They have violated my privacy by invading my email, and have been disrespectful in referring to my mother.

To cut a long story short, I have clearly explained to them that I consider their behaviour unacceptable, immoral. I have been polite but truthful and blunt in my emails to them.

They've responded with abuse and insult.

They prefer to deride me for 'stealing their son' whatever that means.

I have no problem with anything they choose to think, as that is their business, and does not affect my own judgement.

However, could you please explain what my attitude to them should be now, from an Islamic point of view? What ayat and hadis relate to the inlaw relationship, to dealing with people who are hypocritical, who lie, steal or oppress?

I would appreciate a clearly substantiated Islamic view for the benefit of myself, my husband and my inlaws. I intend to be fair to them, but do not intend to allow them to infringe my rights in any way, and I expect them to understand that for future reference.

Asalamu Alykum,

I read the article on how to read Salah on your website, and it said we have to say in Tashahhud - The part "ayyuha’l-Nabiyyu" [Peace be upon you, O Prophet], but i heard the companions of the Prophet used to say this but after the Prophet died they used to say "Peace be on the Prophet". Here is the Daleel:

Ibn Masood's statement, "We said: Peace be on the Prophet" clarifies that the Companions (ra)used to say, "Peace be on you, O Prophet" in tashahhud while the Prophet (saw) was alive, but when he died, they ceased to do that, instead saying, "Peace be on the Prophet". Undoubtedly, this was with the endorsement of the Prophet (saw); this is supported by the fact that 'Aishah (ra) would similarly teach the tashahhud in prayer with "Peace be on the Prophet", as transmitted by Siraaj in his Musnad (9/1/2) & Mukhlis in al-Fawaa'id (11/54/1) with two saheeh isnaads from her. Ibn Hajar says, "This addition shows clearly that they used to say 'Peace be on you, O Prophet', addressing him directly during his life, but when the Prophet (saw) died, they stopped addressing him and mentioned him in the third person instead, saying 'Peace be on the Prophet'." He also says in a different place, "Subki said in Sharh al- Minhaaj, after mentioning this narration from Abu 'Awaanah only, 'If this is authentically-reported from the Companions, it proves that after his time, it is not compulsory to address the Prophet (saw) directly in the greeting of peace, so one says: Peace be on the Prophet.' (Ibn Hajar continues:)This is authentic without doubt (i.e. because it is established in Sahih al-Bukhaari ), and I have also found strong support for it:- 'Abdur Razzaaq said: Ibn Juraij informed me: 'Ataa' informed me that the Companions used to say 'Peace be on you, O Prophet' while the Prophet (saw) was alive, but after he died, they would say 'Peace be on the Prophet', and this is a saheeh isnaad. As for Sa'eed bin Mansoor's narration from Abu 'Ubaidah bin 'Abdullaah bin Mas'ood, who reported from his father that the Prophet (saw) taught them the tashahhud, and then he ('Abdullaah bin Mas'ood) said it (the tashahhud); Ibn 'Abbaas said: We used to say 'Peace be on you,O Prophet' only while he was alive, to which Ibn Mas'ood replied, 'This is how we were taught, and this is how we teach it', it would appear that Ibn 'Abbaas said this as a matter of discussion but Ibn Mas'ood did not accept. However, the narration of Abu Ma'mar (i.e. the narration of Bukhaari ) is more authentic, since Abu 'Ubaidah did not hear (ahaadeeth) from his father, and furthermore, the isnaad up to Abu 'Ubaidah is weak." (End of quote from Ibn Hajar)

as-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahe wa-Barakaatuhu,
Is it any hadith(authentic)or aya in Quran that comands us not to encorage muslims to donate money during khutbah.
The disagreement is between some brothers who are saying that during khutbah, you should not mention or ask people to give money(sadaqa Jariyah)for building masjid.
Second Question: Are We or do we ask our sheikhs, our imams and our teachers of Islam where their Islamic information originates from,is this correct or we just we take their fatwaa as a final answer, without asking them questions???
because they are big name scholars, where they are known to the ummah.
It is very important this questions to answered to resolve the dispute in our masjid inshallah.I do not see problem to ask people for money during khutbah, there is hadith from the prophet pbuh where he saws did ask for money, clothes, food etc during khutba.this answer will put to rest the dispute inshallah

Thank you for replying to my last questions but i think that you misunderstood one of my questions and that was a Qur'anic Ayat can abrigate another Qur'anic Ayat and a Hadeeth can abrigate another hadeeth.

MY question is can a hadeeth abrigate a Qur'anic Ayat?

Second question is ( i know you hate being asked these questions and i apogize for asking this one, as i trust your judgment and your truthfulness )
My question is Brothers her in the U.K Birmingham. They are called Maktaba Salifyya. These brother are very strong on the Aqeeda and Munhaj but they say that Bilal Philips, Shaykh Munajjid, Abu Ammar Yasir Qadhi ect are Hisbee.

What advice can you give me about this kind of situation?

The last time you gave me some advice i accepted the advice and acted upon it and i say thank you for that advice. You told me to stay away and not debate deviant groups. I took that advice and i thank you for that Advice.

Assalamulaikum.

I work at a Muslim owned convenient store. We sell many items and liquor is one of them. The job market where I live in America is very week and it is hard to find work at places that do not sell alcohol. Moreover, jobs I've had in the past have been low-paying and stressful. In past jobs I have been severely mistreated and too mentally and physically worn at the end of the day to study and practice Islam.

At my new job I work for a Muslim owner. I am treated very well. The business supports his whole family. All the money the business makes is given to his poor family members and to charity. He has many family members that depend on the income from the business. Without it they would be in poverty. If he took the alcohol out of the store he would go out of business. Plain and simple.

Can I work there for a few more years till I finish my degree?

Esselamu Aleykum. On the site: www.islam-qa.com I found this answer of Sheikh Uthaymeen reagarding placing hands after rukoo: "The correct placement of the hands when standing up after rukoo is to place the right hand on the left forearm, not to let the hands hang by the sides."

"Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: it seems that the Sunnah is to place the right hand on the left forearm, because of the general meaning of the hadeeth of Sahl ibn Sa'd which was narrated by al-Bukhaari: The people were commanded that a man should put his right hand on his left forearm when praying. If you look at the general meaning of this hadeeth you will note that it says when praying, not when standing. Thus it will be clear that when standing after rukoo it is prescribed to put (the right hand on the left forearm), because when bowing (rukoo) the hands are placed on the knees, and when prostrating they are placed on the ground, and when sitting they are placed on the thighs. But when standing which includes standing both before and after rukoo a person should place his right hand on his left forearm.

This is the correct view."

And while I was watching Sheikh Adly demonstrating prayer of the Prophet s.a.w.s I noticed that Sheikh Adly didn't place his hands on his chest after rukoo? So I'd like to ask our sister Laila what the real sunah is - to fold or not to fold hands after rukoo?

AOA,
If the son or daughter read quran will the dead parents receive the benefit, because the children are the earning of the parents and it serves as a sadqa jariah. Not only reading quran but any other good deed which the children do will act as sadqa jariah and the benefit will reach the parents. Please explain.

If a married woman is seeking knowledge of her religion but her husband really doesn't have the time to teach her because he works long hours to provide for her -- 4 questions:-o
1. Can he prevent her from going to the majid to learn during reasonable hours?

2. What if the sister works and the only time she can get to the masjid is after maghrib?

3. Is it obligatory for him to pay for her to be taught?

4. Is there any fault on the wife if she neglects house duties to go to the masjid to seek knowledge of her religion?

Salaamualikum,

In regards to the sighting of the moon, there is this hadith in Bukhari:

"Do not fast unless you sight the crescent, and do not break your fast till you sight the (following) crescent.” (Al-Bukhari, Vol. 3:130).

Doesn't this mean that for whatever country muslims are in, they have to sight the moon there in order to either start or end Ramadan? Reason I ask is because the National Shoura Council in the USA issued the following statement:

The National Shura Council held a conference call on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 to discuss the time of the upcoming Eid. After lengthy discussion, it was concluded that astronomical data indicates that it is impossible to sight the new crescent anywhere in North America on Wednesday, December 4, 2002, the 29th day of Ramadan. It is almost certain that Eid ul Fitr will fall on Friday, December 6th. As such, Muslim communities may make arrangements for Eid prayer on December 6th. However, the National Shura Council will continue to follow its standard procedures by being open to receive any reports of moon sighting on Wednesday, December 4th.

So do we follow what the Fiqh Council in Saudi say, or must someone in the USA see the moon in order to determine when Ramadan ends?

Jazakhallah khair for your reply. I'm just trying to clear up when exactly do we pray Eid prayers, and based on who's sighting.

As salaamu alaykum,
I want to know if i cannot attend the eid can i put my zakat in a envelope and mail to masjid? Will it count as zakat if i mail the day of eid? I read that the zakat has to be made before the eid prayer is made, or it is just regular charity.
Can i go to the masjid and make my eid prayer, although it is not being made in congregation there, they are making it at the martin luther king center, which is too far for me (imam says i have no excuse i should find a ride)?

Also, I have a question regarding adab. I called my imam regarding the eid, and he was rude to me and hung up without giving salaams, he hung up after i thanked him, also, when i gave salaams, he just said wa alaykum. It has me a little hurt wanting to attend the prayer somewhere else.Am i wrong to be hurt my that? Am i just being too sensitive from that? May allah reward you for all that you do,ameen.

As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

Sister: I am really grateful for your kind reply in helping me on my confusion. I hope you don't mind a followup question on this because I am really confused. It is not that I want to extend this into a debate. Please be kind and help. I will Insha'Allah accept whatever you say now but please let me clear my confusion. Jazakallah Khair

YOU KINDLY SAID:
"After the imam is finished praying then you complete what you missed"

This indeed is supported by the Hadith of the Holy Prophet.
Quoting the operative part:
"Whatever you catch up with, pray, and whatever you miss, make it up.” (al-Bukhaari, 636; Muslim, 602).

YOU ALSO KINDLY WROTE
"This is what is meant by whatever the latecomer who joins the prayer with the imam catches up with being the first part of his prayer.
On this basis, if the latecomer joins the imam in the second rak’ah of Maghrib prayer, then this rak’ah is the second for the imam and the first for this person who is praying behind him, then the third rak’ah for the imam is the second rak’ah for the person praying behind him. Then when the imam says the salaam, the person behind him should stand up and complete his prayer rather than giving salaams, and this will be the third rak’ah for him, and he should recite al-Faatihah silently in it. "

THe operative words are: "complete what you missed"
"whatever you miss, make it up.”

BUT if someone joins in the second Raka'ah, then by any stretch of imagination he missed the FIRST Raka'ah, i.e if he is FOLLOWING the Imam and is not on his own. For the Jmaa'ah a second Raka'a is a second Raka'ah, latecomer is part of Jama'ah and can not have his own way and say this is my first Raka'ah. Thus after the Jama'ah finishes he will "Catch up and finished what he missed" which was First Raka'ah and he must therefore recite some Ayaat after the Al-Faateha.
This is my point of confusion, and I will take your word once you confirm it to me please.
Wassalam and Thanks

Assalam Aleikom,
I am sending this message in order to obtain some information concerning the temporary marriage. I have been debating with a freind about this issue because he beleives it is right. He bases this to some versus from Sourat "Al-Nisaa" and the second problem is that he beleives that most of the Ahadeeth are wrong becasue they were written after the Profet's(s.a.w)death and they were written for some political purposes. I tried to argue with him on this point as well but he got me some quotes from "Mokhtasar Sahih Albukhari" and it had some things which i really doubt their validity. So if I have to convince him I need some proof from the Koran. Whenever I say that the profet Mohammad(s.a.w)has prohibited that, he answer me with the versus 1 from sourat "Al-Tahreem". I hope you can help me on this matter and Jazakom allah Khairan.

I have a serious problem. My husband's brother's wife performs black magic on me, my husband and my three children. This is because of enimosity, jealousy and to get money from my husband. I feel she does it through the Hindi Books. We have been married for 19 yrs. now but had not a single day's peace in our lives. We feel the following effects:

Drowziness
Forgetfulness
Husband's indifferance towards family
Husband sitting at her house all the time
Children complaining of all kinds of ill feelings like headaches and heart pain
Heavyness and enoromous pressure on shoulders, head and heart.
Our kids have dark circles under their eyes and look sick from their faces.
My husband has lost his youth and gives all he can to her and her family.
He is completely infatuated by her.But holds on to his very good character.
Cannot even look at me.

These are but a few of the numerous effects we feel every day of our lives.

Is there any person or Imam who can help us in this foreign country (New Zealand)Or we can consult on the phone. I was once told by a friend to go to a Hindu priest to get some help but I considered it Shirk. Some have asked me to learn and perform Black magic on her but I consider this haram. Is this allowed?

Please help

A very sad sister.

Assalmu Alaikum wr wb:
Please I have some confusions, can you help, I give one by one. Jazakallah Khair

The Fard prayer already started when I joined. The Jama'ah was sitting for the first Tash'hud, when I came in now, not knowing whether this is their 2nd or 4th Raka'h I immediately join them:

a) If I just say Allah'o'Akbar and immediately sit down with them and if I do then do I recite A'ttahhiyaat. If so the in my prayer I will be reciting Attahiyaat for a total of three times rather than two. What do I do.

b) When do I recite Subhan Kalla humma Wabi hamdiaka........

c) I understand when if I join them in the 3rd Raka'ah then their 3rd Raka'ah will also be my 3rd Rak'ak, such that my first Raka'h will be after their Tasleem, Correct?

d) About reciting part of Holy Qur'aan after Fateha.....If I was able to join in the 2nd Raka'ah so that I could just make it when the Imam was still reciting Fateha, Shall I recite part of Qur'aan after Fateha in "MY" first Raka'ah after their Tasleem, AND again I wil be sitting for Tash'hud for three times.

PLEASE HELP
