On another board, a woman reported trying a cigarette after being off of smoking for 23 years. I am going to experiment with this post on most of my boards and this lovely board to see what the response is and what the thinking in on each board. Five months ago, this post would have 10 responses. It only has two and has been ignored for 48 hours so its not like I am taking advantage of any great interest.
Anyway, the woman of 46 said she smoked for five years before quitting at the age of 23 at the request of her husband, a strong anti. After work recently she stopped off to buy some gum and suddenly asked the clerk for a pack of Salem Ultra Lights which were on display. Once in the car she lit up for the first time. "After a couple of small puffs I inhaled and it was heaven," the poster said.
The poster continued: "I chose the right brand because it was so smooth. After about 5 puffs I began to get light headed and put it out. I was going to throw the pack away but decided to hide it under my seat. I am still trying to figure out if the rush I got was from the cigerette or from doing something I should not have been doing."
What is your advice.
Mine is she is playing with fire. My mother restarted after a long absence and got up to two packs a day of Marlboro Red. She said she never smoked more than a pack a day the first time. she apparently smoked lightly a coupld of months before coming out and smoking heavily. She had taken an early retirement deal from her school district and was bored. She returned to teaching this year and quit after a couple of months of battling going eight hours without a cigarette. She's a confirmed quitter. She even passed up opportunities to smoke at a party we had Saturday.
My advice for this person is she may well become hooked if she finishes that first pack. There are those exes who return as social smokers and remain that way but there seem to be more guarantees.
What do others think?
