I met a 40 yr old man at a car dealership who had started smoking only a few months prior to our meeting. I found it extremely odd that a seemingly responsible adult would start at such a point of their life. I do smoke about two packs a day, but started when I was 16. Both of my parents smoked during my childhood, so I'm thinking this had an effect on my starting. This was way before the whole second hand smoke thing, which I hadn't noticed any ill effects from prior to starting. (My thoery is that they had to have some way to make us seem evil, and that was it) I have tried the patches twice and almost finished the program before something triggered my failure. Just a moment of weakness, sigh. I am pretty much sick of smoking, but I do it anyway. Partly for enjoyment, but mostly to keep myself from biting peoples heads off, LOL! I am going to start up with the patches in another week or two, and this time I am GOING to beat it.
