Don’t Breathe

Damn the whirlwind of thoughts and ideas just out of reach.
The cacophony of voices that refuse to be silenced,
Tranquillity forever eludes me.
I’m trapped in a living hell.

Is serenity a gift with which we are blessed;
Or merely a poultice we apply to our wounds ourselves,
A salve to heal the hurt inside,
And fill the cavernous void?

Where do I get a prescription?
Can someone write an order?
For the balm to soothe my tortured soul?
Insanity is but a breath away, I dare not, cannot, inhale.

Then there is the blackness.
A pit without a bottom, a lonely road lined in despair.
Desire has left me, motivation is gone.
I find it hard to go on.

Sleep is a passion, a gift I give myself,
No other escape compares.
Pray keep the ghosts and nightmares at bay.
A blissful respite to the darkest day.

Where do I get a prescription?
Can someone write an order?
For the balm to soothe my tortured soul?
Insanity is but a breath away, I dare not, cannot, inhale.

Riding a carousel that is wildly out of control.
Guided by unfamiliar voices.
Rash, impetuous decisions.
Mine to make and mine to regret.

To slog through waist high mud, yet never rise above it.
To sleep my life away.
To decide by not deciding.
The path of least resistance is well traveled.
