In reply to: Rodney 's message, "the original pilot music intro was not used on the first episode WHY?" on 11:39:13 11/20/11 Sun

Most likely, this was changed, for whatever reason (perhaps financial), when the show was remastered to digital tape in the early to mid 1990s for British syndication. I wasn't aware of the slightly different music until I saw an "off air" recording from the CBS showings.

Probably, they only wanted to remaster just two sets of opening titles (one for each season), or perhaps weren't even aware of of the slightly-different one for the pilot.

This is all just speculation, of course, but this "economical reasons" thing isn't unheard of, even today. The DVD transfers of HAWAII FIVE-O use the first season visuals for all of the first four seasons, even though some of the cast photos were different beginning with season two. BIONIC WOMAN Season 1 DVDs have the wrong (episodes 2-4) opening visuals for episodes 5-13 by mistake, etc. Even in current syndication, the color opening for I DREAM OF JEANNIE is the exact same opening spliced onto all color episodes, and it's painfully obvious because of not only the production copyright year, but the fact that the set of titles they chose to remaster has a slight "skip" in the theme music!
