Yes, "Jason of Star Command" was good Saturday morning fun, an electronic babysitter and fanatsy-inducer for Generation X kids. It was cute, fun, inspired dreams of space travel (in an era whenthe excitement of the Apollo moon missions had already faded into history) and took the kiddie-colony of "Space Academy" and made it a little more mature without forgetting its youth audience.

The idea of a half-space colony, half-starship built on an asteroid may have started with "Space Academy", but it came into full bloom with "Jason of Star Command". I only wish we had seen interaction of the casts of the two shows, instead of one seemingly isolated from the other.

It is also really interesting to look back and see how kids (and young adults) were treated back in the 1970's as opposed to today. Witness Pamelyn Fredin's cute pixie Laura as compared to something on the new-for-2003, sexed-up "Battlestar Galactica". Sizzling Susan O'Hanlon as Nicole Davidoff of Star Command may have carried on the "jiggle TV" fashion trend of revealing tights started by Krofft's "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" or Lynda Carter's prime-time "Wonder Woman", but it still looks mighty tame next to "Space: Above and Beyond", "The Lost World", "Xena" and Britney Spears. At least back then the characters could look cute and offer sex appeal while remaining (thankfully) clothed.

Sid Haig's Dragos was delightfully fun. He was over-the-top! Still, they never really explained his obsession with conquest and why he was after Star Command. What did he want?

I say they should have a "Jason" revival. If they could take "Stargate", put it on the big screen and then make it into a long-running TV series, why not "Space Academy", or "Jason", or a hybrid of the two?
