Well, when the first season episodes did NOT contain a moral on the first run, so TECHNICALLY, the episode is the same as when it first aired. Jackson Bostwick claims responsibility for the idea of having the Captain come back after the story to talk to the home viewer. The shot all 15 of them in one day and they were added to the reruns. He claimed in an interview that his idea wasn't very popular with the network, because that was 30 seconds of ad time they had to give up, but clearly, his idea made a lasting impression on most viewers.

Let us hope that if there is a DVD set to come, that WB will give us the extended "rerun" versions of the first season with all 15 morals added, and the uncut versions of seasons 2 and 3 with their morals intact as originally broadcast.

Commercial bumpers (and the Shazam/Isis Hour intro, if it wasn't a thorny legal issue) would be nice, too, as would a commentary track with Bostwick, Michael Gray and perhaps series producer Bob Chenault.

Yes, and there's another reference at some point about being on vacation from his job at the TV station (which is where his character read the news in the updated '70s comics).
