Hi Kayleigh,
Welcome to the board. I myself have experienced an unplanned pregnancy and I have also experienced a man taking advantage of me. I'm so sorry that you experienced a date rape, that is horrible.
For one moment let's just think about the baby. The baby that you are pregnant with right now is genetically linked to the man who forced himself on you but this baby is also linked to you. This child inside of you is yours and will always be part of you.
There have been people born who were conceived by rape. It's unfortunate that the rape contributed to the life of your baby but the Bible says that children are blessings from the Lord. This child isn't an evil representation of what this man did to you. Yes, the act was evil and wrong but the child is innocent.
Have you thought about reporting this incident to the police? Rape is rape whether it be by someone you know or a stranger. As far as the rapist knowing that you are carrying this child that is something that I would prayerfully consider.
There is an awesome book written by James Robinson titled "Knowing God as Father". James Robinson was conceived by rape as well. In this book he talks about his life long journey, it's totally amazing. He is grateful that his mom chose to give him life so that He could do what God has called him to do.
I know that this is probably one of the hardest things you have ever had to face. I do know how the shame and guilt can make you feel. But, you have to realize that rape isn't your fault. NO matter what you said or did it never gave this man the right to cross that boundary.
I know that this has caused you fear, hurt, anger and so much confusion. But, don't let this cause you to do something you vowed never to do. I'm afraid that the pain from both would be very overwhelming. Some times when we go through hard times we think of a way to just make it all go away and when we take that easy way we end up hurting more than we did before.
Having this baby can be one of the best things that has ever happened to you. You will have to get to the point where you see this child not as a evil reminder of the evil that was being done to you but as the blessing that God intended for you to have.
I recommend that you go to www.pregnancycenters.org and see if you can find a center close to you. They offer free counseling and information to help you. They also provide you with resources if you choose to keep your baby.
Take some time to mentally seperate yourself from the action that attributed to your pregnancy and the pregnancy itself. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please feel free to email me any time.

God Bless,
Lori

Hi, Kayleigh,

I am so sorry that you experienced this rape! This is horrible!

You should go to the police with this. The DNA from your baby will prove that this man is the father, and will provide strong evidence that he raped you.

Your baby shouldn't be punished for what this man did to you. You know that abortion is wrong. If you carry your baby, you will simply have been a victim of rape. If you have an abortion, you will also be an aggressor, against your own child. Abortion is still wrong, whether the baby came from a rape or not. This is also your child, and he or she is depending on you for your protection.

Don't be ashamed. It wasn't your fault. You are not to blame. It is common for women who are raped to think that they are at fault. That's part of the violence done to them, in this case to their self respect.

I read a story once, by Theodore Sturgeon, called Silken Swift. In the story, a woman was raped. The townspeople wanted to test her virginity, so they found a unicorn. Unicorns normally won't let women who are not virgins touch them. But this unicorn knew the story, so he went up to her and let her touch him. She was not to blame for the rape. In her heart, she was still a virgin. Take this story to heart. It is a story that applies to you.

The unicorn is a symbol for Jesus, and He loves you.

Have courage. People may question you. But do you owe anyone else any explanation for your courage? I don't think so. You can tell people if you want. Certainly the shame of the man who did this should be spread far and wide. If you don't want to explain the circumstances, don't. Just tell people you prefer not to discuss it, that it has taken courage for you to face the world, but your baby isn't to blame for your situation, and you won't harm your baby.

Please protect your baby.

You can raise your baby or choose adoption. I know two women who raised their babies, and one was even gang raped, and both of them are doing splendidly. In fact, the one has eight children and says the one she is closest to is the son who resulted from rape. I know another woman who had an abortion instead (date rape), and she has been in and out of mental hospitals ever since.

One more thing. Lori recommended you find a crisis pregnancy organization near you. This is especially important if the "father" wants to assert any rights to your baby. This is a problem in some jurisdictions, and perhaps your best protection is to go to the police now. They can help you with these issues.

We will be here for you any time you need to talk, and we would love it if you will keep us updated.

Hugs,
Pat
