Hi Jenni,

Sorry about the counselor. That was not a very good thing for her to do, but I think you handled it quite well.

As for the medical bit, I think you should do the presumptive thing. That sounds good to me. When I first found out I was pregnant, I signed on right away for medical assistance and I got it pretty much immediatly after I turned in the paperwork. Are you going through your county? Most of the county agencies will send a transmittal to the clinic that you choose and let them know that you have applied for assistance and that you are going to get the MA help.

I hope you get the help, and I am sure that you qualify. Most states are more than generous with a pregnant woman. Also, look into WIC. I went to WIC right away and it ws very helpful. My daughter is still on WIC. She loves her milk! What really helped (I was unable to breastfeed) was the vouchers for formula. Formula is very expensive and it was so helpful to get the vouchers.

Let me know if you need anything else, I will try and so will everyone here.

I am glad to see that you are getting things done! Good for you!

Regarding the prenatals, I had to try 3 different braqnds before I found one that worked for me. The first ones the dr prescribed were so large and so strong, I threw up all the time, negating the purpose of taking them. Ask questions to see what is best for you. Dr's are always busy, but if you have a nurse practicioner at your clinic, they are a great resource!

Lisa

Hi Jenni,

I'm sorry that you felt pushed by the counselor. I agree with Lisa, I would definitely go and see the doctors that will allow medical to pick up the bill that way your not waiting so long.

Please keep us updated. We love to hear from you.

God Bless,
Lori

Hi all :) Thanks once again for all the support. It's so great to know I have place to go to talk to people about everything that's going on and will receive advice and kindness in return for all my drama ;)

As for how far along I am, I'm 7 weeks now, so I doubt I'd be able to hear the baby's heartbeat yet...I think I read that it's around 10 weeks that it's actually loud enough to hear?? And I had some prenatal vitamins from Target (Target brand), but I threw those away and got some from GNC instead. I definately don't mind paying the extra, I just didn't really know there was a difference. The guy at GNC assured me there was, however (I'm sure he had NO vested interest in saying so ;) haha). In any case, I want whatever is best.

Unforntunately, I have YET ANOTHER cold!! Does pregnancy lower your immune system? I had a pretty bad cold when I found out I was pregnant, and it took forever to go away...and here I am after only 4 days of feeling better, with another full blown one! Blah...I think I had a bit of a fever yesterday, and my throat was hurting, so I took one regular strenght tylenol yesterday because as far as I know that's the only thing I CAN take :)

And as for the fuzzy mind...oh my!!! I thought I had completely lost my head! I am usually a pretty smart, on the ball person, and I have been having such a hard time with my school work! I can never find the words I want to describe something; I'm having such a hard time articulating my thoughts, and my spelling has been horrendous! I'm forgetting everything...I've just been a mess! One of my best friends likes to comment that the baby is "sucking my brain power," (in a very joking way) haha.

And as for the medical stuff...I went down to the office of social services and filled out some very basic paperwork with name and address and all of that, and one saying I was pregnant, and turned that in and they said I'd receive a card in the mail with an appointment date and time on it, at which time I would fill out the application and give them all of my documentation needed. Who knows how far off that will be...AND, apparently since I began things with the Medi-cal I'm no longer eligable for the Presumptive Eligibility...super...So I may have to wait until my Medi-Cal comes through completely and is finalized before I can make my first appointment...hopefully it's not too long...

Sorry so long again....just had to get it all out :) Thanks again to everyone!

Oh... the joys of MediCal. LOL Hopefully it will all go through for you soon. Glad you are taking care of yourself.

I think pregnancy can lower your immune responses some, at least that is the theory. On the other hand, colds, etc. seem to be going around here a lot, too. I've had a couple and I'm not pregnant. LOL

Cold's really make me fuzzy headed... so does old age. LOL

Sounds like you are on top of things, but if you need anything, just let me know and as always I'll do what I can.

Hi Jenni,

I'm glad to hear that you will have MediCal very soon. I'm not sure if pregnancy lowers your immune system but I can say that I kept a cold because of the nasal congestion associated with pregnancy.

I did notice during pregnancy also that I was forgetful. I know a lot of pregnant women complain about this. I found this thread on babycenter. http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/236.html

Here is a article about staying healthy during pregnancy. I found it to be really informative.

Please continue to keep us updated. It's always nice to hear from you. I hope you feel better soon.

Take Care,
Lori
