Hi Jamie,
My grandparents were also the glue to our family, so I understand your concerns. My moms brothers and sisters are sort of scattered in different states so we don't see each other all that much. We honor their traditions and so our family makes it a point to get together at least once a year. So everyone travels and we spend Memorial Weekend together and we all go to our grandparents cemetary. We live in the country and the towns are still small. We have church and singing on the cemetary. Not a long service but it's very meaningful for us all. When you travel to the cemetary you pass the old Homeplace. It brings both sad but yet many joyful memories to mind when we see it each year. Some of my happiest memories of my childhood are on that farm. My grandparents were the most humble, christianly people. The best role models I can think of. My Aunt reminds us constantly that we came from Good Stock !
I'm sorry your mother in law was not more sensitive to your emotions the day of the Funeral. I agree, you will feel so different having your own place. I love my mother in law but I'll be honest, I couldn't live with her, heck I couldn't live with my own Mother. I wish you the best of luck finding a home for your family.
It's always good hearing from you !
Hugs,
Donna
