Amber,

I want you to know that you are totally not alone. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling right now. Because I was where are you are now not quite eight months ago. A little bit about me, is that I got pregnant when I was 15 had my baby when I was 16 (actually had her on Saturday) and a little bit early. I was scared to tell my parents for the fear that they would disown me or something like that. I am currently a single teenage mom, I am legally an adult and I am NOT going to prove the statistics right.

You have found a great place to get the support you need. I truly don't think that I would be where I am today if I hadn't of found voy. They have helped me so much. If you ever want/need to talk I am ALWAYS just an email away. Come to me with any problem or question. Remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. You can totally do this and also remember that you have choices. So don't let someone push you into doing something you don't want to do. I'll be praying for you! Please come and update us, even the little things that you think don't matter...Because we care!

Taryn

Hi, Amber!

This is going to be an intense few months, but you can make it through it. Tracey's got good advice: think things through a bit before breaking the news to your parents. You might be surprised, though. They might actually step up to the plate and surround you and your baby with love and support. (If they don't right away, almost all of them end up doing so down the road ;-)

You should also make a visit to a crisis pregnancy center. They can provide you with positive, life-affirming personal support and can give you information specific to your area on various programs and opportunities for help. (There are lots of those that people don't know about - and place like Planned Parenthood typically aren't going to tell you about them either ;-) They can also often provide you with an ultrasound which will let you see your little one! It's amazing how developed they are - I remember thinking they were just a blob of cells about the size of a pencil dot. I was so wrong! At, 10 weeks, my son already had ALL of his organs, he had a heart that was BEATING, and he had fingers and toes! Absolutely amazing.

You should look into the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program. It provides you with free vouchers for healthy food throughout your pregnancy (and food for your little one up to 5-years-old!) It's an awesome program that is designed to give babies a good, healthy start in life. It's through your county health nurse. You'll get vouchers for milk, iron-fortified cereals, peanut butter, eggs, fruit juice, beans, etc - all sorts of healthy food. It's really a wonderful program.

I found myself with an unplanned pregnancy when I was 18. I'm SO glad I cancelled the appointment I had for an abortion because I now have an awesome, loving, funny, kind 27-year-old son. I absolutely cannot imagine the world without him in it. Remember that your little one is completely depemding upon you to protect him or her right now. And, there will likely be a LOT of people around you who will try to tell you it's "easiest" to just get rid of "it". But, that's not true - the reality of abortion lives with you forever. It might seem easiest at the time, but the hard part lasts forever. Plus, I've NEVER heard a woman regret NOT having an abortion, but unfortunately lots of women end up regretting HAVING an abortion.

My middle son (13 years old) has a friend in school who just had a baby. She was 15 when she got pregnant. She's a very strong young lady, carrying her head high and going right on with school while pregnant. In fact, one of the boys in their class said to her that she had been a really good example and role model to him. Her strength and fortitude had served to show the other students that there ARE other options besides abortion. This girl has chosen to place her baby with an adoptive family through an open adoption (meaning she still gets to visit and know the baby as she grows up.) I know that she will be blessed not only with the relationship she will have with her baby as her baby grows but also with a deep sense of peace with the knowledge that she chose to give her baby the gift of life in spite of the challenges.

I'll say a prayer for you.

Sharon
