last weekend when i went to a new and unfished lake i took out a boat that i had borrowed from a friend and decided to do a bit of roach and perch fishing as i did not think that there would be any pike in there because there was no way of acessing it, i had caught about 25 roach and perch when my keepnet which i had attached to the side of the boat slid out of the holder and went into the water and sunk to the bottom - i was GUTTED, i looked down through the seemingly bottomless lake to see if it was lying on the bottom, but i couldnt even see the bottom let alone the keepnet so i decided not to let it ruin my days fishing so i chucked on a mepps size 3 spinner in an attempt to catch some large perch, i had been spinning close to the bottom when i hit a snag, i started to reel in to see if i could free my spinner but it wouldnt budge, so i started to pull for a break when suddenly it came, so i started to reel in to get whatever it was off the end of my spinner so i could get it back in, when it started to come closer to the boat i noticed a distinct rectangular shape, i had caught my lost keepnet, i was over the moon when i started to pull it onto the boat. I noticed that it seemed a lot heavier and then i heard lots of splashing coming from the side of my boat, a pike must have swam into my keepnet to tuck into my roach and perch in my keepnet and hadnt finished his meal when i started to reel it in and get it out of the water, and as fish instinctivly swim down he did not escape, i had caught my first pike from that lake and didnt even need to use my forceps which i hadnt brought, it was a bit of a handfull on the boat thought because it hadnt been played down, i measured it and estimated its weight to be around 4lbs, not bad for a days roach fishing :)
