I am trying to find information about the species Silurus glanis. It is an introduced species over large parts of Europe and a popular species for sport fishing. After talking to some Silurus fishermen I was left with many questions. I am interested in the environment and the dilemas caused by all non-native species. When I suggested the fishermen kill the Silurus they catch they thought I was crazy. I thought this species could pose huge problems to the native fish.
Why is it that these fishermen were so against trying to irradicate Silurus from the area yet they have no objections about trying to reduce the non-native species of cray fish? I would appreciate it if people could post their own opinions and recommend any published evidence to support their opinions. It is a subject I know little about but would like to learn more. I don´t want to start a discussion about the pros and cons of fishing, as I think I may be out numbered, but I am genuinely interested in the subject of fishing non-native species.
