Im Kampf gegen den drohenden Klimawandel setzt das Deutsche Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ) in Hamburg auf einen neuen Supercomputer. Der vom Bundesforschungsministerium finanzierte Hochleistungsrechner "Blizzard" soll das Klimageschehen künftig noch realistischer und exakter darstellen als bisher. Das 35 Millionen Euro teure System, das bereits seit April im Einsatz ist, wurde am Donnerstag von Bundesforschungsministerin Annette Schavan und Hamburgs Bürgermeister Ole von Beust (beide CDU) der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. "Das ist der größte Rechner, der ausschließlich für die Klimaforschung zur Verfügung steht", sagte Schavan.
