PRISON ALERT - HMP MAGHABERRY - UPDATE

The Civil Rights Network is gravely concerned about the physical condition of all four Co. Tyrone men on hunger-strike since August 14th. A relative, but a few days ago, found it difficult to recognise whom she had come to speak to in the visiting area. We would go so far as to say that we are not convinced that they are receiving proper medical attention and daily supervision, as we learn that a nurse goes in to see them "every other day" but we are assured they "get regular tests done". "Regular" is very vague - every few days? - Once a week? At this stage, in spite of what appears to be deliberate "misinformation" to the contrary, the protest fast is on-going and the four continue to express their determination to continue until they are moved to a Republican wing. A few weeks ago we asked for an expert medical assessment on hunger-striking in general, and once obtained it was conveyed to the loved ones of the prisoners, their solicitor and hopefully their own GPs. This we will re-publish under the Civil Rights logo ASAP on this FB page.
